It's incredible that a company the size of Sony doesn't have a fully redundant gaming network .. whoever designed it needs to be fired. Networking 101 -- don't put all your [easter] eggs in one basket. Design it in such a way that if you do have problems, only portions of the network become unavailable -- not the entire thing.

PC gaming overall is my preference, i use my xbox maybe twice a month compared to a few times a week on my PC.

but there is just something amazing about the racing sims graphics on xbox that make it stand out

Man .. this just gets worse and worse .. it's still down, and now there are rumors going around that credit card information of users may not be safe..

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...ard-fraud.html

Never buying a Sony product again. 6 days downtime is gaylordesque.

    So glad I'm on Live:

LOS ANGELES – Sony Corp. said Tuesday that the credit card data of PlayStation users around the world may have been stolen in a hack that forced it to shut down its PlayStation Network for the past week, disconnecting 77 million user accounts.

I'm not ever buying another Sony product again. I've been loyal to the Playstation brand since the beginning, but I'm done - this is the last straw.

Now, all my personal information, including Credit Card number is probably out in the wild .. and it took Sony SEVEN+ days to tell us that our information has been stolen. Probably beyond 7 days, because the network began to become unstable about 3 weeks ago. Unbelievable.

I think I've done all I can; I've changed all passwords that were the same as my PSN password .. and will be keeping a very close eye on my credit card account. I'd rather not change the number since I have a gazillion things that automatically come off that card every month... massive inconvenience. As for my address, email address, phone # .. well I guess that info will be sold to thousands of mass marketing companies now. *sigh*.

I hope Sony burns for this.

wow, not touching that one lmao...

but yes, sony was hacked, and pretty well from what I have seen. They have brough in some of the top players in the game as far as network forensics and security to figure out and test the breach. They have the network down on purpose, there was never a hardware issue. But huge suck factor nevertheless. Lawsuits are already starting....

I'm up for some lawsuits. My inability to cause a bloodbath on Battlefield 1943 has forced me steal to a tank, blow up a few buildings, shoot down a bunch of Japanese warplanes, and base camp outside the local cadet office .. waiting for them to spawn.

Total damage was about $10,000,000 .. so pay up Sony, I'll keep the change.

Wow, how nice of Sony (sarcasm) to provide so much in return when the service is back:

During a press conference tonight in Tokyo, Sony detailed what it will reward PlayStation Network users when the service is turned back on next week after being shut down due to an illegal intrusion.

The company announced its "Welcome Back" program worldwide, giving all existing PlayStation Network users 30 days of PlayStation Plus for free. Current PlayStation Plus members will receive 30 days of additional service at no cost. Sony will also provide "selected PlayStation entertainment content" for free to download. Details for each region will be announced at a later date. Additionally, Music Unlimited subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.
