Most 2 steps use ignition retard.

True anti-lag uses bypass valves in addition to fuel and ignition modifications.

Anti-lag = Spools the turbo by igniting fuel in the exhaust manifold AND/OR retarding ignition timing far enough to allow some combustion gas to flow past the exhaust valves. The allows more power for turbo cars off the line, and a reduction of turbo lag post shift.

Watch some Group B rally videos for some cool Anti-lag action.
Typically, 2-step is a 2nd rev limiter that can be combined with retarded timing and added fuel to get boost off the line.

Anti-lag is what is used on rally cars, and is on all the time, not just at launch, maintaining boost in between shifts and any time you are off the go fast pedal. There are a few different ways to set a true ALS "bang bang" system up, but it is very different then using a 2-step to launch/build boost.

So does Anti-Lag create some sort of detonation to create boost when you're off the pedal?

Sounds like they had a decent development day yesterday -- 60's in the 1.5x's despite 40* temps, but transmission problems and a blown turbo kept them from stringing together a record pass:

Best pass tonight by the HPF M3 was 11.15 @131 mph in the 1/4. Unless I missed something after I left.

    Fontana?

3700 DA? Really? Whoa, 10 second pass at any other strip. My hat is off to you sir, I suggest you create a new thread with the slip and DA.

    Props, seriously.

Wasn't me. It was Chris Bergmann at the Vegas strip for MFest. Not sure the name of the strip, but from what I hear, the conditions were not ideal.

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. That pass must have been done after I left. I only saw the 11.15 and the 11.18 passes.

Seemed like everyone was having traction issues. A few people ended up in the sand too. lol

I didn't get very many passes in because I crushed my lower intercooler pipe on the way to the track and had to fix it first. My best pass was 12.29 @ 128 MPH. I was on the pump gas only tune running Sunoco 110.

I found the trap speed to be extremely encouraging since I was using the lowest HP map available to me. The OS Giken 3 disc clutch is one major $#@! to get to slip. With some practice I should be able to bust 10's quite easily at my local track where we are at sea level.
