This really sucks, especially the part about scraping the registration off. To see it from the other side, however, I bet the cop sees you as an "upper" class civilian who thinks he doesn't have to obey the law when everyone else does. The expired registration just gave him the opportunity to "teach you a lesson" (with more than a ticket) for not mounting a front plate when everyone else does.

Yep, he's a huge security risk. Imagine if the state doesn't get their registration cash right on time? Chaos will ensue I tell you.

When i was in Cali from 92-95 i was told the front plate was optional and didn't use it and never got pulled over for it. I know the OP is NY, just wondering about that and if it's changed in any of the places where it used to be optional.

It's mandatory in Cali but only really enforced in airports and such.

Obviously, as someone who thinks it just completely ruins the front of the car I would like to see the law changed but you know they will never allow it since it gives police a reason to pull you over and hassle you (like Msizzle for example).

Yes, the industry term for it is "valuable tool for law enforcement", and includes all the "nuisance" stuff.
