you are missing 1 point. N54/55 are not cast iron as that of 2JZ.

I was able to pulse bosch relays when I sprayed n20. As an alternative, you can get Crydom relays. They are good.
Progressive spraying allows better traction which is needed on a RWD M3.

S54 does flex at some points, and damages.
Parts / machining / custom made studs help to decrease stress.

I never sprayed with locked cam.
With vanos, spraying from 2700 rpm was good for traction, I did spray progressively.
