Wow, lots of errors on the S54
- pics of valvetronic?
- bucket tappets from the M54?
- forged AL pistons?
makes me wonder about the info on the other engines.
I liked reading the...
so now that we've seen and heard about it, the proof will be in the (pudding) driving.
looking forward to first drives from editorial press.
Hey thanks a lot. That is good to know. Perhaps BMW is as conservative about weight, leaning heavy, like HP, leaning shy.
Is your car loaded up on features or basic?
Control at the limit will be a deciding factor for this new M3.... Where the E92 excels above the e46 even.
The lower weight is a focus because other factors are now changed with turbo power. For...
I am particularly interested in the weight of the new M3/4 and its effect on driving dynamics, along with the big power.
For the record, Anyone who bashes the e92 M3 has never driven one.
long live the S65
Actually no one (dealers) will "give up" allocations, and there is a bump in last minute demand for the M3, given the turn of the tide coming. ( schools of thought for the M3 engines.... )
I cut it realllllly close. My dealer rallied to get me an allocation. On top of that I got it close to invoice and got every rebate/incentive available. (Financing, USAA, and Loyalty). and a CCA...
It is done. Have an allocation, for the e92. I could not have done it without the proceeds from the sale of the M. Not to mention the 330 is as new and a real grocery getter but not nearly the book...
contacted a friend in BMW NA. Asked him about advice... jump on one of the last build allocations for e92 M3, or wait for the new F80/82. It'll be interesting to see what he says.....
BMW M keeps their secrets. No one knows the finals on the S55 except BMW at this point. But hats off to you S65 guys anyways

F30,F31,F33,F34,F80: I drove a MT e90 and noticed the overall weight...
I drove a MT e90 and noticed the overall weight in the turns. I had to flog the go pedal, but the sound in the upper revs made that fun. I would get terrible mileage if I had one.
i look forward to...
We will see.
we will see
If they design it to flow like the S54, why is that so hard to fathom? You are being dogmatic and so biased about s65 it is a bit annoying
My bet is that the S55 will rev to 8000 also, knowing the M fanatical engineers....
i too enjoy the S65's v8 sound
that's how I felt about the e9x models (have an e46 still).
but the pics I've seen make the new M out to look quite menacing.
not sure if that's good or bad.
Usually if I like something right away...
talking to friends at the CCA and various sites, they are said to be targeting the weight of the E46 M3, with an underhood pic of the engine. S55 looks complicated/ lots of plumbing and with the...
I wonder about the new lighter M3, vs. the current one. Light weight does so much for handling and braking not to mention acceleration. One reason I am keeping the S54/z4M-R, at 3200 lbs.
I am torn...

yeah like the CDV protects the clutch, by fostering increased wear.

not just M engines either...
yeah, my S54, M54, and M42 all benefit from forged internals. good stuff!
what the... erased the link. While it is beneficial for ACCURATE information, (lame)

that's why I posted. S65 pistons are cast, the crank and rods are forged just like the other M engines

Site won't let me post the link. You will have to google it. it's over at e90fanatics as a PDF.
over 110 pages long; good reading.
It is titled "Aftersales Training - Product Information. E92 M3...
