Honestly I think the size of the wire shows a lot. It must use a lot more current if it needs a wire that size.

The stock head gasket is a mls type and pretty thin .030" if I remember correctly. I think the BIGGEST issue with the m54 is the aluminum threads in the block and the head bolts/ studs. I will bet...
