Here is a O2 sensor protecor for highly tunded engines. It is used in applications that the normally will reduce the sensor life a lot like in two-stroke engines or when running race fuel etc....

It should be a lot cheaper to fix a valve than replacing the engine if this is the problem. The risk for a blown piston is quite high though compared to a valve leak.

I agree the type of damages on N54 that carves BIG holes in the wallet are tune related, like blown pistons and worse. This will happen with any engine that is subject for constant increase in power....

You may instead have a bad wire connection in the harness from DME to coil 5. -
