Yea, I hear you about the CA 2011's. Didn't know that AU was part of that as well. Was just caught off guard by how "not" over-extracted it seemed. I would almost call it "elegant."

Finally had an opportunity to try a MD Carnival of Love. It was delicious. I wouldn't call it life-changing though. Question, was 2011 an "off" year for them? Just want to know if it is...

2005 Elyse Cabernet (magnum) - It was good, but not great. It probably would have helped to drink a recent vintage for comparison. Took about an hour for the nose to open up, with mostly sweet kirsch...

Will do. When you have wines at a restaurant, do you usually ask them to decant for you (assuming you didn't bring the wine yourself and decant at home)?

Pretty excited. My friends are bringing out a 2005 Elyse Cabernet magnum tonight. It will be my first opportunity to try a wine with some age on it, and I know that 9 yrs really isn't that much age,...

It was "palatable" when it was first opened, but after a few minutes when the "fruit" or whatever flavor they're trying to pass off as fruit came out, it was just awful!
I was surprised by the...

Experimented with some budget store bought wines, just to see if they were even palatable.
Apothic Red - cloying, I've never wanted to dump a bottle more than this
Bogle Essential Red - not too...

Hi Times has a bottle of Screaming Eagle (don't know which vintage) for tastings - $75/taste

LOL. I am intrigued by this. Tell me more.
Seriously, though. I was thinking that was going to be the case. They've got a pretty decent by the glass wine list that seems to always be changing....

So Wine Lab in Costa Mesa is serving a 1st growth Bordeaux by the glass. They're using a Coravin.
2009 Chateau la Mission Haut-Brion Pessac Leognan
I'm thinking of pony'ing up the $100 for a 1...

I've already got a bunch of Syrahs from SB, and more are coming. One of my favorites to drink actually. But those are more elegant than the Australian variety, in general I think. I'm looking to add...

Kinda feel like I want to start drinking Australian Syrah's as my daily. Any recommendations on solid wineries for ~$20-30 price point?

Hi-Times in Costa Mesa is having a sale on Mollydooker.
'12 Carnival of Love & '12 Enchanted bath, each for about $55

That was what I thought. But from the website and my basic understanding is it seems "The Prisoner" name and rights are now owned by a different winemaker as of 2009 (The Prisoner Wine Co). Does that...

Check this out. They've been making The Prisoner (previously Orin Swift) since 2009.
05-17-2014, 04:16 PM
Wait, I'm confused. Are there 2 Prisoner's on the market? One from Orin Swift? And one just called The Prisoner?
05-17-2014, 04:10 PM
Just tried a glass of The Prisoner last night (2012 vintage, I think). Came off as fairly light bodied - very one dimensional. I still prefer Abstract to this.
Also had a glass of Sans Liege The...

Did a little wine tasting at Wine Lab in Costa Mesa. Not quite sure how long the first two were open, but the CDP was opened for my pour. Had the...

Wait, it's a California wine that's produced/bottled in Oregon? Doesn't that mean the grapes are from California?
05-03-2014, 12:07 AM
What about compared to Caymus? Good winery that is typically consistent right? I'm pretty sure you've had every vintage of Caymus (regular) Cabernet for quite some time, so there's a means of...

Has 2011 really been that poor of a vintage for Napa?
I have not. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll give it a shot next time I'm out.

Having a '10 Chateau Ste Michelle Cold Creek Vineyard Cabernet. Really good for $23! Washington continues to impress.

Added a '11 Mourvedre Spur Ranch San Benito County to my order from Stefania.
I don't think I've even seen a single varietal Mourvedre being sold elsewhere. Should be interesting.

That pretty much explains it! Thanks.
