" A new 'entry level' Jaguar designed to take on the BMW 3-Series and the other segment rivals is coming. The last time Jaguar attempted this was with the X-Type that ended its production run in 2009 which was not the success Jaguar expected it to be. Jaguar expects different results this time around as the car will get a clean sheet design without Ford's involvement.
With an all aluminum chassis expect a lightweight and competitive car. A new four-cylinder engine line dubbed 'Ingenium' will serve as the base powerplant. It will be interesting to see how the turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder stacks up to BMW, Mercedes, and Audi.
The question is whether Jaguar will give the car its supercharged V6. The supercharged V8 seems to be ruled out at this time but Jaguar would essentially have a C63 AMG rival out of the gate if they stuffed the V8 inside. Lightweight aluminum sedan with a 5.0 liter supercharged V8? Um, yes please.
Jaguar has not released any transmission details but they do not offer a single car in the lineup with a dual clutch at this time. We will all have to wait and see if Jaguar actually gets with the times and offers a technologically advanced drivetrain for the car or if they are content to just re-use the automatics they have. "
