Sticky created the thread Porsche's upcoming mid-engine 458 rival internally designated 988 and to use modular architecture that will be the basis for all future sports cars.
" This is the sports car that apparently has Lamborghini in a tizzy as its architecture will likely be used for the Huracan successor. The new car is internally dubbed the 988 during development as the Porsche marketing gurus figure out what to call it. Autocar states the car will use a flat-8 engine although that seems to be a guess. PorscheBoost has heard rumors the 4.6 liter V8 used in the 918 Spyder may be borrowed for this car.

At this point nobody really knows as plenty of internal squabbling is taking place. Turbocharged power may be employed as well but a target of over 600 horses at this point is the goal. This all may change as the architecture is not even expected until 2017.

That brings us to the main point which is that this new architecture will be used for all future Porsche sports car. That means mid-engine cars such as the Boxster and Cayman as well as for the rear engine layout of the 911. This does not sit well with Lamborghini as they are not interested in four-cylinder power for the Boxster and Cayman but a V10 for their Huracan successor.

Porsche wants to keep costs low with flexibility by using the same platform for every sports car. It makes sense on paper but it will have to be highly modular to accommodate so many different engines and designs. The 911 and the Boxster sharing the same platform somehow? If anyone can pull it off it would be Porsche. "

" These are the studs we use when longer ones are needed, they are proper BMW exhaust studs, and are heat treated as such so they will not fail. Using intake manifold studs in a 1500+ degree environment is not a smart idea, but I know you do not like being told what to do, so if you want to use intake studs in your exhaust go ahead.

" Took a few days off and got some away time on Nantucket this past weekend - popped by Gillette on the way back purely as a fan and wanted to pass along my thoughts. Obviously, this is a Patriots-centric post and solely reflects my personal opinion.

- Both Jamie Collins and Dont'a Hightower look like different players this go around. Hightower has a quiet confidence about him and is clearly best suited at the SAM (strong side). He's an end of line thumper who was miscast on the weakside last year. Expect to see him playing toward the LOS more, that's where he can be a very nice all around player. Collins just looks like a beast, to be frank. Rare athlete who was rocking people back with heavy hands all day from what I saw. He'll play at least 80% of the snaps this year if healthy. I can't see a scenario in which you'd choose to take him off the field.

- I worry about the teams depth at linebacker and D line. They have well above average top end talent in Mayo, Collins, Easley, Wilfork, and C. Jones (Hightower could join that group) but the depth is not inspiring. Their inside backers in particular could stand some quality depth infusion, though I think at this point they'll go with what they have. Worrisome.

-In the one practice I saw, I didn't see enough pass rush on the field. Getting Easley integrated will be a godsend but this is still not a unit that can just tee off on quarterbacks. Chandler Jones looked like a force but everyone else I saw relied on effort rather than ability to win 1 on 1. The ability of Collins and Hightower to deliver off the edges on fire and zone exchanges will be critical. Both Kelly and Wilfork have the ability to rush but it's not a safe bet to count on them.

-Gronk looked like Gronk. Dominant in every pass catching drill I saw. I think they'll ease him back in but for fantasy football purposes he showed no lingering effects. In a red zone fade drill he scored 3 consecutive touchdowns. "

Sticky created the thread BMW to celebrate 100 years by finally producing a supercar and an M1 successor in a 2016 i9?.
" This is a rumor that just won't die and even BMW themselves just does not seem to know what side of it they are on. Just last year BMW stated an M version of the new i8 hybrid does not make sense and the 'i' and 'M' brands simply can not mix. Frankly, BimmerBoost believes that BMW 'i' could use a little BMW 'M' sprinkled on it. The base that makes the most sense for the M brand to use to produce an i9 supercar is the i8 unless an entirely new platform is created.

The Germans over at Auto Motor Und Sport state the i9 is an i8 on steroids. Instead of using a three-cylinder motor that barely offers enough power for a lawnmower the i9 will get BMW turbo inline-6 power. Which inline-6 will they use? Hopefully the underrated S55 turbocharged 3.0 liter inline-6 from the new M3/M4.

Additionally, more juice is expected from the electric motors. That likely means heavier batteries and the larger motor itself would be heavier so yes, the i9 would weigh a bit more than the 3380 pounds of the i8. Probably somewhere over the 3500 pound mark which with close to 600 horses and all wheel drive is absolutely fine.

Now, this all sounds great but the real question is will it happen? M stated they want to build a supercar. Some idiot at BMW headquarters said BMW 'i' and 'M' can not mix because he is an idiot and apparently differentiating between two different letters of the alphabet confuses him. A BMW i9 with some serious power to back up the looks is the perfect way for BMW to celebrate 100 years. There is no official word on if it will happen but let's hope the Germans are not just making this report for hits. "

This afternoon i'll be cutting off the rear intake tube and trying to finish up the exhaust portion (moving to all V band). Ill also be re-mounting the intercooler and taking measurements for chargepiping.

Here's some more pics! Excuse the air filter, not the color I thought I was getting......

The holdup really was them testing drivability on their own M3 which they are now happy with.

So, the discs and basket are coming in soon and that's it. We turn up the boost to the max and... judgement day. I'm looking forward to seeing jaws drop.

This setup will handle far more power and torque than my blower is capable of producing and was initially developed with something else in mind but I'm getting it first. What that means is it will be good for the built motor twin turbo M3 setups and the major HP they push.

Just a week or two and it's officially over.
Nice one. Looking forward to it. "
