The title suggests it. Its a cool product and OE is supplying it to the end user at a very good price. "

" Porsche these days is much better than BMW but they aren't perfect either.

BMW is making disposable cars to sell as many as possible. They don't care about long term reliability. They just want stuff to last the warranty period. "

" Not to add fuel to this fire but I had no idea the oil they were making you use in these engines. I was at my dealer the other day hanging out waiting to pick up a new HPFP, and I saw a sign on the wall that listed oils for the models. the S65 and S85 were in BOLD and CAPS saying ONLY USE 10W60 in these motors. I asked what that was all about, 10W60 is a pretty heavy oil for such a high performance motor. The service manager just shook his head and said don't ask. We just do as were told and fix the things when they break, and they break often. Seemed a little fishy to me. Growing up on Porsches and owning 3 of them myself. I have a brand loyalty to them and I also say Porsche>BMW. "

" I had the dealer update me from IJE0S to ILA0S back in January with no issues. It took them 9 hours to flash it. Like BuraQ I was under the impression that ILA0S was he last DME version. INA0S had to be released in the last 2-3 months. I am surprised they would just flash your car without saying something. I had to make a big fuss making up a story about long rough cold starts. The first time I told them that they ended up replacing the HPFP and didn't even do the DME update I requested. I took it back the next weekend and demanded they update it which they did.

You should be able to flash your car to stock ILA0S via BB software. It is not difficult and all you need is a BT cable and the free software. Once you flash it back to ILA0S you should still be able to load your Cobb on top of that since you essentially working with a stock flash at that point. I can even change the VIN number on the ILA0S.bin file to match your car so it will look factory. "

" Some great info in this thread, keep it up.

I would tend to agree that many of the S85s having trouble have been treated like shit their whole lives. They don't get warmed up, they get revved to cutoff right from the start, they get idled a lot and then beat immediately after. They get crappy fuel, oil change intervals were inconsistent, all kinds of things. They are very highly tuned engines, and few road engines have ever been so finely balanced. Also, you have to think of your typical M3/M5/M6 buyer...they aren't quite as concerned with the well-being of their cars as say, a Ferrari or Porsche owner. They're younger, probably leasing, and just want something cool to show off in. Totally fine, I don't hold it against them. But they beat the hell out of these things and yes, a few of them succumbed. Makes sense to me. I think BMW could do maybe a bit more to ensure that's it not a systemic problem, but from what I've seen there's not a lot of evidence that it is. A few engines out of tens of thousands is not enough to make a case.

The idea that Ferrari/Lamborghini/any other exotics are trash after 50k miles is just silly and untrue. They're made with a higher degree of precision or accuracy than any other vehicle, doesn't even make sense. There's plenty of 100k mile Lambos, Ferraris, Maseratis, and obviously Porsches that still work great. Hell, there's a guy on FChat who has wellllll over 100k miles on his 599 and it has never broken once. In fact, those as a rule have been pretty damn reliable. But they get maintained and treated like they're made of paper. "

" First off BADASS build, this car will be a beast! Moving on the turbos, I have to agree with you there is never any free lunch. Getting 30R power with less than 28R lag is basically defying the laws of physics. Here are some comparisons of similar sized GTX's and EFR's with all the fancy Gamma ti wheels etc. The results might surprise you. Spoiler alert, the GTX's spool faster. "
