The mid-size luxury sport sedan market was one BMW dominated. Some can argue they really invented it and set the standard. The E39 5 series was really were people saw just how much better BMW was at building these cars for all around performance than anyone else. Something has happened along the way and the F10 5 series is no longer as dominating in this sector. Has Audi gotten better or has BMW slipped? Maybe the answer is both.

We have all known for a while now that Stage III supercharger kits from Gintani are coming. There are a handful of cars running around now but they are running Vortech T-trim blowers. Due to the volumetric efficiency and high revs of the S65 M3 engine the fairly large T-trim gets maxed out fairly quickly. In comes the bigger, badder Vortech YSI. As you can see from the pictures the YSI fits, just barely though. The supercharger casing does need to be modified slightly in order for it to fit without issue.

The 2011 race featured a packed field. Competition in the GT3 field among private teams was fierce with 57 cars alone in this category. Spa is a GT race featuring cars like the R8 LMS, Z4 GT3, Mercedes SLS GT3, Porsche 997 GT3, etc. The race was won and dominated by Audi who led 22 out of the 24 hours in the R8 LMS. Third place went to the Mercedes SLS GT3. Spa features private teams with factory race cars making for a packed, diverse field and interesting race. Full race results below.

This is a bit of a surprising result. The Audi R8 V10 is a fast car, we all know that. This example features an ABT tune and Milltek exhaust which the combo is said to be good for 600 horsepower. The G-power SK-II supercharger kit is said to produce 570 horsepower at around 6 psi using an ASA T1-522 supercharger. It sure does not look like 570 horsepower on the M3 as with that much power and a dual clutch transmission it should put up a much better fight. The Audi walks it, easily.

The i3 does not exactly get us excited as enthusiasts. The i8 on the other hand is supposed to be the exciting and fun to drive BMW 'i' car. Power to the front wheels will be from a modified i3 electric motor. The rear wheels will get power from a direct injected 1.5 liter likely turbocharged motor. The electric and internal combustion motors combined should be good for 350 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque in AWD mode which should provide sub 5 second 0-60 times.

Well here it is, the BMW i3. Say hello to the electric era of BMW. The i3 seats 4 passengers. Its 170 horsepower and 184 foot-pound electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery. Power is sent to the rear wheels thankfully. With 170 horsepower it is not the most powerful car in the lineup and is said to hit 60 in under 8 seconds and hit a top speed of 93 miles per hour. Ultimate Driving Machine? Not exactly.

The first performance suspension upgrades for the X6 and X5 M are available now from Dinan for $1199. The suspension kit lowers the car 3/4 of an inch in front and in back. Front and rear shock mounts relocate the mounting point to keep the stock travel. Also included are the rear ride height sensor mods. It is also designed to work with the factory electronic shocks and load-leveling suspension without issue.

The last time we brought you news about BMWNA head Jim O'Donnell it was that he was being forced to apologize over comments he made over electric vehicles. We really liked that Jim O'Donnel told it like it was and did not hold back. It seemed he ruffled some feathers by not buying into BMW's 'i' electric vehicle cult and actually suggesting that, gasp, more diesels in North America may be a good idea. Is it just a coincidence that just over 2 months after these comments and the seemingly forced apology he is being replaced?

We finally completed the nitrous install on my 335i. The power gains where phenomenal but as people know it is easy to get carried away. We found a medium result between boost and jet size and tuned the car to make 500whp at only 1 bar boost. We saw much higher numbers but at the moment until the gearbox is upgraded we will leave it at that. OB from Chip Logic work was meticulous both in terms of the wiring but also in terms of certain plumbing that was required to make the kit fit as best as possible. This is a rendering from Theophiluschin who tends to do a lot of these interesting takes on cars. We have all heard rumors of a BMW X4 and it will likely come just not any time soon. Several recent reports have stated the car has either been cancelled for this generation or significantly delayed. It was supposed to arrive in 2012. BMW will be doing a different take on it and making it much more sporty. The car will share X3 similarities but the rear will look nothing like it so this is pretty much a rendering of a what a X6 style X3 would look like and not an X4.

Well, unfortuntately, BMW was not able to continue its streak of winning every race this season. The M3's both had the fastest overall laps out of anyone else in the GT class but the number 4 Chevrolet C6R took the win followed by the number 62 Ferrari 458 Italia. The M3 did lead for most of the race but a penalty on Dirk Werner in the number 56 car cost him the lead. It was a penalty for tapping Spencer Pumpelly in the GTC class who arguably should have gotten out of Werner's way. We do not need to remind you that BMW has won every ALMS race this season do we? Well, let's just say the M3's have been dominating thus far. Dominating to the point they received a "weight adjustment" to attempt to balance things out. Well, even with any adjustments the cars still appear to be very strong having taken the front row for the ALMS race on Sunday (7/25/11). The number 45 Flying Lizard Porsche GT3 RSR qualified in third but was nearly 2/10's off the time of the second M3. Good luck to BMW Motorsport, let's keep the strong showing going.

BMW announced it will offer a $550 performance edition option for the E90 3 series a few weeks ago. The E82 135i will be getting this same package which only makes sense. The same BMW performance software is available for the 135i just like the 335i. Along with the power gain of 20 horses on the N55 turbo six cylinder, black kidney grills come with the package as well along with some badges. Well, the low 11 second runs keep coming from upgraded turbo N54's which means 10's are just around the corner. First, congratulations to OldBooster who did this run on the upgraged turbo only, no nitrous. It is also important to note that this run was done in pretty poor conditions as it was hot out. Track temps were around 110 and humidity was 90+. Mods on the car are a dual CM10 meth setup, JB4 running map 6, drag radials, and of course the Rob Beck upgraded turbos. Will be great to see what happens in cooler weather.
