This is supposedly a stock E60 M5 and BimmerBoost will give the benefit of the doubt even though the M5 just flat out runs away from the CLS550 with the twin turbocharged M278 powerplant which responds very well to modifications. The problem though is the CLS is running some crappy piggyback BenzBoost has never heard of. Renntech has gotten the M278 with their flash up to 489 wheel horsepower as the Mercedes M278 versus BMW N63 comparison article on BenzBoost shows so a good tune should beat a stock E60 M5. ...Published on 02-22-2013 04:40 AM
When Mercedes-Benz announced the E63 AMG facelift and that it would have all wheel drive as well as a fairly large power boost it made everyone wonder if the M5's time at the top (primarily due to its underrated motor providing a horsepower advantage) would be short lived. Well, it certainly appears that time is now over as the E63 AMG S 4Matic is now clearly the superior performance car according the test data below. ...BMW attempting to fix the mess that is the F07 5-Series GT with a major styling facelift - Spyphotos

The 5-Series GT is awful. Yes, awful. It's ugly, it doesn't sell, it's a flat out disaster and hopefully one that is costing BMW tons of money so they pull their head out of the sand. BMW is determined to force a round peg into a square hole and so will be giving the F07 5GT a major styling refresh. Will it work? Will it somehow change BMW already declaring the 5GT a failure and one of their former executives stating they wished they kept the 5-Series wagon instead? Doubtful. ...Published on 02-19-2013 11:10 PM
This video makes one scratch their head a bit and is causing some rage on the GT-R forums. Not because the idea of the M6 winning a roll on sprint versus the 2012 GTR is not possible but in the way it happens in this video. The M6 literally just runs away from the GT-R from a 2nd gear roll. Now, the M6 does put down more power than the GT-R stock for stock, roughly 70 more wheel horsepower. It is heavier however with a curb weight of 4088 pounds versus the GTR's 3859 pound curb weight. ...Published on 02-19-2013 02:11 AM
Hard to take seriously what is coming out of BMW M head Friedrich Nitschke's mouth regarding BMW's commitment to rear wheel drive. Autocar reports Nitchke made the following statement, “Our philosophy in regards to steering feel and precision is that rear-wheel drive is the best solution. xDrive brings an 80-90kg weight penalty and the M differential is the industry’s best rear-drive set-up.” No disagreement from BimmerBoost here. ...Published on 02-18-2013 06:53 PM
Everyone knew that turbo motors in M cars meant far more tuning would be taking place as well as some very big gains. Well, AMS Performance of Nissan GT-R Alpha package fame will be applying their expertise to the S63tu V8 in the F10 M5 as well as the F12/F13 M6. The goal is over 1000 horsepower and BimmerBoost does not doubt it will be achieved although obviously the build process, testing, and development is going to take some time. ...Published on 02-16-2013 02:19 PM
Here is Active Autowerke's exhaust for the new F20 328i with the turbocharged N20 four-cylinder. The pictures you see below are of the prototype version but the production version should not differ by much and is currently under construction and should be available in two months time. The exhaust alone provides gains of 9 horsepower at the wheels and 13 pound-feet of torque at the wheels as measured on the Active Autowerke Mustang Dyno. ...Published on 02-15-2013 09:51 PM
Nice comparison here showing the difference in the top end strength between the S85 V10 in the E60 M5 and the S65 V8 in the E92 M3. Both motors are basically the same thing but the two extra cylinder and extra liter of displacement in the S85 shows quite well in how the M3 is pulled easily from the 50 and 70 mile per hour rolls. Also, the E60 M5 S85 V10 having an Evolve tune while the M3 does not have a tune makes a huge difference. ...Published on 02-14-2013 12:21 PM
Well here is BMW's new race car that is bending the ALMS rules (considering BMW does not sell a Z4 M) the Z4 GTE. If it was not enough for BMW to get away with racing the Z4 without homologation they also increased the displacement to the M3 GTS 4.4 liter spec from the 4.0 liter displacement which last years M3 raced with. Hey, if you are going to bend the rules might as well go all the way with it right? ...Published on 02-13-2013 03:41 AM
Congratulations to Gintani for setting a new S85 V10 horsepower record with their E60 M5 Stage I supercharger kit. You may recall in December of last year the completed kit was announced and a dynograph from a Dyno Dynamics was posted showing 530 wheel horsepower. BimmerBoost stated these numbers at around 6.5 psi of boost would be in the ~600 wheel horsepower range only for some fanboys running a competing kit to snicker. ...Published on 02-13-2013 01:11 AM
So with BMW and Toyota announcing their deal to join forces with technology development it seems there are going to be some very interesting results from the collaboration. The initial announcement stated that BMW and Toyota would partner on a new sports car and interestingly enough it seems that sports car will indeed be the Toyota Supra successor as rumored. Additionally, it seems the GT86 platform which underpins the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S will play a role in a new car for both BMW and Toyota. ...Published on 02-12-2013 02:12 AM
Here is the leaked production chart for the new BMW 4-Series in F32 (coupe) and F33 (convertible) guises. What is interesting to note is the F32 4-Series coupe will have xDrive all wheel drive available right off the bat for either the 428i or 435i. The F33 Convertible however is available only in all wheel drive and it is unknown if it will gain the xDrive all wheel drive option but considering the F32 coupe already has it xDrive for the convertible eventually seems logical. ...Published on 02-11-2013 10:52 PM
Great runs here from two bolt on modified naturally aspirated cars. The E60 M5 obviously featuring a 5.0 liter V10 S85 engine and the 5.0 Mustang with as the name would suggest a 5.0 liter (Coyote) V8. As stated in the title this is a rematch and the modifications for the M5 have changed. Let's start with a look at how the cars stacked up before the newest round of modifications which is to say quite evenly matched. ...Published on 02-08-2013 10:22 PM
This video comparison shows what a huge difference having the right winter tire makes for your car. Even if one has all wheel drive putting summer tires on all four corners does not seem to help anywhere as much as having a dedicated winter tire. The E46 M3 has Michelin Alpin 4 tires and is able on a snow covered incline to do get better traction than any of the cars next to it on summer tires whether they be front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, or all wheel drive for that matter. ...Published on 02-08-2013 12:11 AM
The Alpina B7 got a horsepower bump as did every BMW N63 powered car (50i powered models, SUV's did not get the updated motor) thanks to the addition of Valvetronic and software changes. Alpina takes things a bit further with their upgraded turbochargers, intercoolers, and forged internals for an output of 540 horsepower over 445 horsepower of the 750i. This makes the Alpina B7 the closest thing to a BMW M7 that one can actually purchase since for now BMW thinks an M 7-Series does not fit the brand although SUV's somehow do. ...Published on 02-06-2013 06:41 PM
So the internet all of a sudden is acting like the 3-Series GT design was just revealed. The car design was leaked already in December of last year but here we have official photos from BMW of the F34 335i GT model. And it's just ugly, it's really damn ugly. The 5-Series GT already is a failure but BMW wants to try again to create a niche nobody wants. Whomever it was at BMW that thought putting the poorly developed offspring of a 3-Series hatch and a wagon into production needs to be let go. ...Published on 02-06-2013 04:51 AM
Well it seems this week BMW believes making an M version of the i8 hybrid is a good idea. What's amusing about this? Well, it's being reported by CAR Magazine. Why is that funny? Because CAR Magazine is the same magazine that said no M version of the i8 was coming. It's to the point that nobody really knows what the hell is going on but this is fun to report because it drums up interest and for CAR, most importantly to them, magazine sales. ...Published on 02-05-2013 05:12 PM
Some good laughs as well as driving in this video courtesy of Team Door Bangers. The premise is simple, use a BMW to deliver in a pizza in a certain allotted amount of time. Spice it up though by having that BMW be a stripped out E46 set up for the track and it makes for some awesome action shots and funny moments. Who wouldn't want to be a delivery boy for an hour when getting to drive some seriously fun hardware while doing so? ...Published on 02-04-2013 05:50 PM
What is going on here? AMG continues to lose engineers and important personnel to the competition. AMG recently lost their engine guru Friedrich Eichler who is responsible for many of the excellent new AMG powerplants to the Volkswagen Group and now chassis engineer Arnd Meyer is gone. This makes for two high profile engineering losses at AMG within a month span. One way to positively look at it is AMG's competitors want who AMG has and clearly AMG has really stepped their performance game up getting a lot of attention. ...Published on 02-03-2013 01:26 AM
Tuning a car remotely is not the headache it once was, not even close. These days thank to quick internet access one can get a remote tune done even with a cellular data connection. Check out what Evolve was able to do remotely here an E60 M5 with Dinan intake, Dinan exhaust, and Supersprint headers. Change of 26.8 wheel horsepower at peak with the only difference being the Evolve Automotive remote software tune. ...
