The exhaust tone of the new F10 M5 is a major disappointment and an area routinely criticized on the new car. Especially with BMW feeling they need to pipe in synthetic engine noise to make up for the weak stock exhaust tone. In comes Akrapovic with their exhaust system to remedy this weak point and their exhaust most definitely improves the exhaust sound. Not only does the exhaust give the car the sharper tone it so desperately warrants it also saves weight and adds power. ...

Here are the latest spyshots of the F80 M3 making their rounds on the internet. We aren't huge on spyshots usually but these reveal some details. First of all, the front bumper design appears to mirror the new F12 M6. Simple, elegant, nothing radical. There is also a slight hood bulge similar to the E9X M3 series. The brakes certainly appear to be quite large filling out the rims in front and in back. We would not be surprised to see 19's as standard with optional 20 inch rims (hopefully with a different design). ...

Just to preface both Evolve and Cobb are vendors on BimmerBoost for good reasons, they have great tunes powering some very fast BMW's. What you see here in this video are two very different tuned vehicles. The E60 M5 with a Stage I Evolve tune and Eisenmann race exhaust for its naturally aspirated 5.0 liter V10 is the camera car. The E82 135i has the Cobb Stage II aggressive with downpipes and a twin turbo N54 3.0 liter I6. ...

Like it or not electric automotive performance is a field set to rapidly expand in the next decade. Most of us do not yet take electric cars seriously as a performance alternative to internal combustion but here is an electric hill climb race car that should get enthusiasts to at least entertain the notion of electric performance. The electric E36 M3 rally driver Bill Caswell drives in the video below features a single Warp 11 electric motor for a claimed output approaching 700 horses. At that power level the juice only lasts about 12 minutes. ...

BMW has done an absolutely spectacular job in ALMS the past two years with the M3 winning the GT class two years in a row. So why not continue? The problem lies in the M3 exiting production shortly as the F30 3 Series is already here. Not to mention new technical regulations curbing the M3's dominance. BMW is considering the possibility of homologating the Z4 GT3 for ALMS duty. This raises another problem as the Z4 does not currently have a variant with a V8. It also does not have an M variant. ...

The BMW S1000RR is an absolutely awesome high performance bike that BMW Motorrad created in part to race in the Superbike World Championship. It is this continued desire to race in various series that has led to this HP4 edition. The bike has the same power output as the standard S1000RR but with a different torque map, dynamic dampening control, launch control, and lighter weight. ...

Eurocharged is very well known for their Mercedes tuning but they also tune for a variety of other platforms such as Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bentley, basically you name it. That includes BMW and recently Eurocharged did a custom dyno tune for a 1M. The dyno readout here is in killowatts and newton meters so we have converted the figures to units you are all more familiar with (horsepower and pound-feet). ...

Yes, we are now starting on the design of HPF cams. We have done several M3's that make slightly more than 1,000 rwhp. We are now looking beyond 1,000rwhp. So it's time we start developing cams that are specifically designed for our turbo systems. The head design uses a follower between the valve and cam which allows for very aggressive valvetrain geometry. The lope shape can literally have a negative radius of curvature (peanut shaped on one side). ...

COBB Tuning is proud to announce that BMW N54 AccessPORT users can now tune for alternate fuels, such as E85, with the latest updates in AccessTUNER Race and AccessTUNER Pro tuning software. AccessPORT end-users and professional tuners can quickly update AccessPORT maps to accommodate fuels of different specific energy using the newly added Fuel Scalar tables, resulting in proper fuel trims during engine operation. This development opens the door for BMW N54 enthusiasts looking to take advantage of the performance and cost benefits of using E85 and other fuel blends. ...

These are the videos we like to see, comparing the same cars with different mods. In this case the camera car has an Evolve Stage I ECU tune, RPI scoops, RPI pulley, RPI block off plates, and an Eisenmann muffler. The other M5 (2006) is running a Powerchip tune which used to be one of the best tunes for these cars but Powerchip is pretty much on life support (if not dead entirely) and is living off their past name and tunes which have not evolved as the Evolve tune has (pun intended). ...

With spyphotos of the upcoming M4 (the new M3 coupe) being posted last week it is no surprise renderings of what the car may look like are popping up. This is by far the best one out of all the efforts we have seen. Clearly lowered with a lip and M6 style rims, if the real thing looks this good we may just have to change our mind on the awkwardness of the M4 model name. We still are waiting for details as far as what it will have under the hood but we expect a 450+ horsepower turbo inline-6. ...

BMW is the two time ALMS GT Class defending champion. They are accustomed to winning and being the cream of the GT class crop so we understand the reason for the attitude displayed in the their latest press release regarding this past weekends ALMS race. BMW stated their cars were able to "persevere" through the race despite new regulations that have limited the cars speed in the straights by as much as 4 miles per hour. We like when BMW shows some attitude. This lets us know the spark we love is still alive somewhere in the Motorsport division. ...

The luxury performance SUV segment was really started by Porsche with the Cayenne Turbo which has been the cream of the crop since its introduction. When BMW saw how well Porsche was doing with the Cayenne as well as Mercedes with its AMG ML variants, they finally caved in and decided to get in the mix creating the X5M. We will readily admit the X5M is a spectacular performance SUV worthy of its first place finish in this comparison. ...

Now the 550i is at a bit of a disadvantage here on paper. With only 400 horsepower compared to the Jaguar's 470 acceleration is clearly appears to be in the Jaguar's favor. Well, the test numbers support that statement as the Jaguar runs 12.6@112.8 to the 13.2@108.3 of the 550i. Fortunately, the 550i will not be outgunned for long receiving a 45 horsepower boost courtesy of revised software to match the output of the new 6 GranCoupe. We would like to see this comparison again once the 550i is updated. ...

It makes no sense to us to abandon the M3 coupe when the car originated as a coupe but the M4 appears to be here to stay. The F32/F82 M4 spotted testing here in Europe with its turbocharged motor which chances are will be based on the current N55 direct injected inline-6. The M3 will be launched first and the M4 will follow. It is going to take a long time to come to terms with the idea of the new M3 being an M4. ...
