M3 vs. M5 battles are a ton of fun. Usually because M5 owners have their heads so far up... in the clouds. They tend to think an M3 is no match for an M5 and this is fun to mess with especially with a modified M3. An M5 can be modified as well of course and this video shows how much stronger the top end on a naturally aspirated tuned S85 is (exhaust, scoops, filters, tune) vs. a naturally aspirated tuned S65. Top end racing is where that V10 shines. Time for those blowers on the M3's fellas.

People are going to debate if this car is still a BMW but from what we understand this is still an E30 chassis with a manual transmission and a heavily modified S38 I6. The 3.7 liter motor features Pauter rods, Arias pistons, 264 degree cams, full methanol, 6 1200 cc injector, 6 1000 cc injectors, and a custom T66 turbo. Power is estimated in the 1300 horsepower range. The body has been modified with fiberglass front fenders and a hood. It has run a best of 7.69@184 miles per hour. We do not know what to say other than congratulations to Budler Motorsports.

Well, this isn't much of a surprise as BMW pretty much had everything wrapped up at the previous race. BMW managed to finish 3rd and 9th at the 1000 mile Petit Le Mans which was good enough to get their second straight overall ALMS GT title. It was a dominating season for BMW which had 7 consecutive poles at one point as well having started the season with a string of victories. How do you like the BMW V8 in the M3 now Porsche?

The new F32 4 series is coming (what we all remember as the old 3 series coupe) and German outlet AutoZeitung has provided their rendering. Nothing shocking, simply looks like a downsized 5 series which is what all the spyphotos have been leading us to believe anyway. The F30 3 series is set to be revealed in mid-October and it is possible the 4 will be revealed with it. Regardless, expect official photos soon but this renderings should not be far off from the real thing.

It is nice to see BMW at least gave the 1M a little more in the tune over a standard N54. They obviously could have put out much more if they wanted to. 346 wheel horsepower in STD correction is pretty darn good for with an intake. That is basically M3 power right there. The car is rated at 335 crank so when a vehicle is putting out more to the wheels than it is rated at the motor that is definitely what we call underrated. This leads us to believe the reason the 1M did not get the DCT transmission is it would have stepped all over the M3's toes.

We are finishing up the turbo manifold right now. The pictures below were taken a week ago. The head flange is quite complicated with how the turbo manifold seals to the head, but it is also quite ingenious. There are two ports leaving the collector to the wastegate which is a Tial 44mm VBand to ensure boost control is easily maintained. This turbo manifold fits all Precision T4 Performance turbos from a 67 to a 76. We will sell them separately for those that want to build their own custom turbo kit, but will also sell all the hardware to complete the turbo system.

The new 2014 M3 was spotted testing. What is interesting is that it was spotted in 4 door guise despite past rumors about there not being a 4-door M3 this generation. The main question is what motor this car will get? It is almost certain (seriously, it's certain) it will be a turbo motor of some sort. So will it be a tweaked N55? Will it be an N54 with valvetronic and some tweaks? Will it be a triple turbo? Will it be the rumored V6 with a 6 into 1 exhaust manifold feeding one turbo that then feeds into another larger turbo for some kind of compound setup? At this point, we don't think anyone other than BMW knows.

This information comes from Bimmerfile who was able to confirm with a member of BMW's board of directors, Dr. Hubert Diess, that carbon ceramic braking options are coming. BMW is working with Brembo who will be producing the discs and likely the rotors as well. We hope the carbon discs and rotors are from Brembo as one looking for an upgrade for the traditionally weak BMW brakes tends to go to aftermarket Brembo big brake setups anyway.

Well, that was fast. BMW will no longer be selling their hybrid X6 in the United States. Sales apparently were far less than BMW expected. Part of the reason was the X6 hybrid's cost which started at $88,900. We would look at the X6 M at that point. Additionally, the hybrid system did not provide all that much of an efficiency gain (only 12%) as the weight of the electric systems forced the X6 to balloon to 5765 pounds. That is over 500 pounds on top of the already heavy standard X6 V8. Maybe it is time for BMW to stop trying to act like one can make a 5200+ pound twin turbo V8 SUV "efficient and dynamic" with heavy hybrid nonsense and focus on bringing us more diesel options in lighter cars?

Does anyone remember when M motors provided enough noise on their own? BMW is pumping synthetic engine noise into the cabin through the speaker system to the front and the back so everyone can hear what the motor is supposed to sound like. We like quiet cabins as well as engine sounds but this is a bit absurd. There is a real problem when a BMW M5 has to fake its engine noise. What is next? Different engine modes so you can pretend you have an F1 car or even fake blow off valve sounds to look cool to the kids?

Well, the rumors about it being delayed or never coming are finally over. The BMW X4 is officially coming as BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer confirmed it. What is the X4? Well, just a sportier version of the X3 similar to how the X6 is a sportier more "coupe like" version of the X5. The X4 will share the drivetrain of the X3. This vehicle will be built in the USA at BMW's South Carolina plant where the vast majority of X models have been built. Oh, and yes, BMW is planning an M version of this vehicle.

Well, here we go, more all wheel drive BMW models. Certainly not a bad thing as long as we get the option which we do at a $3000 premium. The X-drive 6 series model will be available for coupes (F12) or convertibles (F13) so you can put the top down in the snow which is always cool. Heh, get the pun? Sure you do, you are an intelligent BimmerBoost reader. Anyway, the base price for a 650i coupe is $83,000 so with all wheel drive one is looking at $86,000 before adding anything else on. This option will likely be available for both the 640i and 650i.

The document posted below is the full BMW N20 technical training document and it is incredibly in depth. If anyone wanted any and all information on the new N20 direct injected turbo 4 cylinder, here you go. It is a long but interesting read as BMW provides the history as well stating this is the first 4 cylinder sold in the United States since the M44 4 cylinder which was last seen in 1999. Another interesting tidbit is that BMW began producing 4 cylinders in 1927 with the 3/15. Hey, may be useful for trivia one day.

We like to see different things. We like different approaches. We do not look cars that are overdone and do not flow right however like this one. Is it different? Yes. Is it good? No. The owner of this E46 M3 took an F430 Scuderia diffuser and adapted it to his E46 M3. Interesting idea but the execution just does not work. The quad exhaust tips on the M3 just seem tacky and basically ricer. Maybe with a cleaner exhaust setup this would work.

Congratulations to BMW drivers Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller who clinched the drivers championship before the end of the season. However, BMW was not able to hold off Porsche who won the race moving them closer to BMW in the manufacturer standings. The number 56 M3 GT was passed by the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and 458 Italia with 2 laps remaining but the Ferrari ran out of gas at the very end allowing Porsche to get the victory and for BMW to get the second place finish. The final race is the Petit Le Mans and unless BMW completely blows it and Porsche wins chances for a second straight BMW championship are looking good.

BMW is on the pole yet again. This marks the 7th consecutive race that BMW will be starting from the pole position. Dominating? We would say so. This is the second to last race of the season. Want to watch? Of course you do. Check it out tomorrow (9/17/11) at 1:15 Pacific Time on espn3.com. The race will also be broadcast on ESPN 2 Sunday but who can wait that long? If BMW finishes strong they will all but secure the championship for the second straight year.

Here is yet another car from Hamann that was revealed at the Frankfurt show. As has been the case with the latest Hamann kits across a wide variety of platforms (Porsche Panamera for example) the body kit just seems a bit overdone. This is much, much better than the Hamann Panamera but it just does not flow cleanly. They put LED's in the front bumper as everyone is doing and obviously revised the front bumper with a much more aggressive piece. The rear diffuser and side skirts are not bad but it just seems like the car is trying too hard and loses a bit of its sophistication with this setup.

Renntech seems to be spreading to all platforms and that is a good thing. Increased tuner competition should bring out the best. We received this graph showing dyno results for the Renntech S63B44 ECU tune. The car puts down an eye popping 518 to the wheels on an all wheel drive Mustang dyno along with 497 all wheel torque. There is no baseline unfortunately for which to compare the gains from. The car did run 12.7@109 stock and with the tune managed 12.2 and almost 112 miles per hour in 87 degree conditions on just 91 octane pump gas.

We are bringing you this information because it is our duty to report any and all BMW performance news. If this is true, which the Vbox file sent was genuine, then the very questionable character Mert has set a new S54 record with a 4.22 60-130. However, as just mentioned, this is a person of questionable character. There is no video, no photos, and there are no real details. What turbos? What size shot of nitrous? What was done to the motor? These are all questions we would like answers to but the owner is not contributing any information to the community. He seems more intent on using the community to prop up his own ego. This new record run being all the more perplexing considering Mert has stated he is getting a new engine block so who knows if this file is actually from his car. For now, and thankfully, djoborya maintains the overall BMW 60-130 crown at 4.2 done on a drag strip with a blazing fast 9.28@153 in the 1/4 mile. Come to your own conclusion.
