One of the first modifications many people install on an E9x M3 is an performance exhaust system, and while the exhaust system layout of an E9x M3 may seem like elementary knowledge to most fans of the M3, IND constantly gets calls from less experienced enthusiasts who are simply too busy to put their M3 in the air and have a look underneath. I find myself sending clients photos of various exhaust combinations simply to give them an idea of where all the components sit, and how each part can contribute to both power and sound. ...Published on 06-23-2011 05:37 PM
BMW provided a press release today with some new details on the F10 M5. Included in these details were that the boost is higher at 22 psi in the S63tu (F10 M5 motor) vs. 17.4 psi in the standard S63 V8 twin turbo in the X5 and X6 M. The compression ratio is also at 10.0:1 the same as the N63. The X5 and X6 M as you remember from our twin turbo V8 comparison article have 9.3:1 compression ratios. So the F10 M5 is higher compression and higher boost yet only rated 5 horsepower higher with rear wheel drive? ...Published on 06-23-2011 04:00 AM
Now, it is obvious that forced induction motors respond better to mods than high strung naturally aspirated powerplants like the S65 V8 in the M3. However, the M3 is still able to get substantial gains with a tune and exhaust such as this car here. It is basically a drivers race with the dual clutch transmission (DCT) in the M3 making it so that the EVO driver needs to shift perfectly to win. A great race overall, full mod list for each car along with the video below. ...Published on 06-22-2011 08:31 PM
If you have been living under a rock you do not know who Horsepower Freaks is. If you haven't, you know that they are the premier choice for E46 M3 / S54 turbo kits. If you want big power for your E46 M3, HPF is really the main option for good reason. The company has some of the highest horsepower BMW's out there and has grown into a giant in the BMW performance scene. Their customer service and marketing are really at the top of the BMW game. HPF continues to expand and we are proud to welcome them on BimmerBoost. Check out the article below about HPF from Performance Business Magazine and their newest video as well. ...Published on 06-22-2011 04:00 AM
The new 7 series is a beautiful car. Seems BMW already feels it needs some exterior upgrades to stay fresh entering its third year of production. The front headlights are receiving changes along with the front and rear bumpers. New mirrors that house LED turn signals are also being added. It would appear that all the changes will be cosmetic, mechanicals to remain the same. ...Published on 06-21-2011 06:45 PM
Chevrolet continues to dominate BMW and everyone else in the WTCC. The Chevy Cruze won both race 1 and race 2. In the first race Chevy finished 1-2-3. It doesn't get more one-sided than that folks. The bright spot was Tom Coronel in his BMW 320 TC who managed a second place finish in race 2 moving him into 5th in the driver standings. He is more than 100 points behind Robert Huff who drives for Chevrolet in first. There is more talk of adjusting the weight to balance the cars. ...Published on 06-20-2011 11:09 PM
This is designed to be a lighthearted video although as with much satire there is some truth to it. To be honest, the video is mildly amusing and we don't care all too much for the reviewer. Calling the DCT an automatic? Well, it isn't an automatic and some people prefer winning races and maximum performance to babbling about clutch peddles. Saying the 1M is what the M3 should be, is, well, insane. The M3 should be a parts bin M car sharing a motor with 135's? No thanks. Take the video with a grain of salt and as an attempt at humor. ...Published on 06-20-2011 04:08 PM
Yes, BMW is going to keep throwing out teaser videos before the official reveal. At least it isn't as bad as with the 1M which they revealed fender by fender. This is the first video from BMW to officially feature the new M5. To be honest, there isn't much here other than slow-motion panning but it builds the anticipation as it was designed to do. One thing we do learn is that the HUD looks very nice. ...Published on 06-19-2011 11:05 AM
Well here they finally are, the new AR Design 550i N63 downpipes. These are full 3 inch downpipes. The $1199 version is completely catless without resonators. For catless with resonators, the price is $1499. If one is interested in a hi-flow race cat AR Design also has a version with 5 inch cats. We hope by now you know that rioting took place in Vacouver after the Canucks lost game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Yes, in other parts of the world people are fighting their government for basic human rights. In Canada, people are fighting because they lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. In the first video the girl fights off a bunch of guys from flipping the M5. Unfortunately, the M5 is later trashed and lit on fire as the drunken idiots celebrate destroying it. ...Published on 06-18-2011 04:11 AM
This is BMW engine modification on a whole different level. What you see is a hoverbike. No scienece fiction, the real thing. Twin rotors are framed around an 1170 cc BMW boxer motor that was sourced from an R1200 BMW bike. The hoverbike is made out of carbon fiber and weighs 231 pounds. Maximum takeoff weight is is 595 pounds with a calculated maximum altitude of 10,000 feet. Pricing is said to be aimed for the $40,000 range but clearly there is a lot to work out here before we can all start riding our hoverbikes to work. Specs and details below. ...Published on 06-17-2011 07:24 AM
We know BMW has been testing the S63 twin turbo V8 in the X6/X5 M and F10 M5 in higher states of tune. An X6 M with large air scoops on the hood has been spotted testing as well as with other changes to the bodywork such as the side skirts. We know Mercedes will have a Performance Package available for the new ML63 AMG so it seems BMW is preparing to respond. The questions are, will this package be available for retrofit to standard X6 M's and will it be a new higher performance model or just a factory option? ...Published on 06-17-2011 04:00 AM
Horsepower Freaks is becoming a giant for several reasons. One is that they have some of the most powerful packages available in the BMW aftermarket sphere. Another is that they have some of, if not the best, marketing in the BMW aftermarket. Part of the approach is controversial but the fact is you can not get away from the name and everyone does know it. Their build journals and marketing are basically the most detailed and well done out of anyone. The film is enjoyable and when Chris (owner of HPF) sent it to BimmerBoost, we told him we would have no problem putting it up. ...Published on 06-16-2011 10:51 AM
Russians do some pretty crazy things with BMW's. From getting them stuck in the sand at the beach trying to show off to wrapping them completely in gold. This leather covered X6 is yet another attempt at doing something extreme but it just doesn't look good. Plus, leather shrinks when exposed to the elements so what is the point? The gold X5 might have been controversial but it pulled the look off well. This is just...

As many, probably all of you know, I've been having a slipping transmission since the record setting track day. After a vast search of capable transmission specialists, I decided to go with Level 10 Transmissions, located right here in my own NJ. I have heard their name thrown around in high HP/TQ domestic crowd before, but never knew they were in NJ. From the moment I talked to Pat on the phone, my spider senses kicked in and told me this is the place I need to go to get what I want done, when I want it done, and done right the first time. ...Published on 06-16-2011 02:50 AM
AR Design is close to wrapping up their top mount turbo manifold for M50 based motors. We first reported on this manifold three months ago and AR Design has made significant progress in that time. The only other quality top mount we know of on the market is the 666 fabrication manifold which retails for $1400. It will be interesting to see what AR Design prices the manifold at and also if it will be part of a turbo kit that they will offer. ...Published on 06-15-2011 12:32 AM
Nothing shocking here folks but this is the official F10 BMW M5. It looks pretty much just like the concept. 20 inch wheels appear to be standard with Z rated tires. What we are hoping for with the photos out there now is that we can get the details on the good stuff. Such as the changes made to the motor, the new redline, the torque capacity of the new DCT transmission, etc. ...Published on 06-14-2011 07:40 AM
What you are looking at is one of the baddest BMW's in the United States. Last year it ran 9.5@148 in the 1/4 mile and also was the first BMW to break into the 4 second 60-130 mph range. The car has since gotten a new tune along with some body/wheel work and is set to improve on the already highly impressive record setting 1/4 mile and 60-130 times. You know a BMW means business when it is making 808 horsepower at the wheels and has a parachute. ...Published on 06-13-2011 07:57 PM
So, your typical day in Southern California. Sun shining, go out for Sushi, and spot the F10 M5 doing some testing. This is apparently the manual test car, there were no shift paddles. The test driver seemed to be agitated we were taking so many photos. We kept snapping away until we both got a red light. The test drivers window was down so we tried to ask some questions, he just ignored us. BMW, it wouldn't hurt to get some test drivers with a personality or to interact with your fans. The guy is out on public roads, he shouldn't get upset people are snapping photos of a highly anticipated car. You guys aren't that upset about the 1M critcism, are you? ...Published on 06-12-2011 09:13 AM
BMW fought a tough race and came away with third place in the GTE class. The race was full of drama with several wrecks and mechanical issues for teams. BMW did have the fastest lap in the class but was not able sustain their speed for the whole race. The 56 car was in second place when the driver told the crew the car was misfiring and the ecu as well as an ignition coil had to be replaced. Major congratulations to Chevrolet and Corvette Motorsport for their well deserved win. ...
