It was already announced there will not be an M version of the BMW i8. That certainly has not stopped anyone from dreaming about what it could potentially be and look like. German magazine AutoZeitung did exactly that rendering a new M1 based on the i8. If it was up to us, we would build it. The fact BMW is going to produce a hybrid sports car before an M1 successor is mind boggling in of itself. ...Published on 05-14-2012 04:50 AM
Another podium finish for BMW this season and a solid result although it is not a win. The win went to Corvette Racing who simply ran a spectacular race. In the closing hour, seven cars were within two seconds of each other in the GT class. Bill Auberlin in the number 55 M3 seemed set to challenge the lead Corvette for the win only for Jan Magnusson in the Corvette sister car to make a spectacular pass with 15 minutes remaining. Auberlin would finish 3rd and the sister M3 would finish 4th. A hard fought race and congratulations to the Corvette team. ...Published on 05-12-2012 09:54 PM
This car should never have been taken out of the US lineup. The 5 Series GT was simply not the answer for people who wanted a wagon, the sales figures supported that. Unfortunately, it will be a year long wait before we have this car as it will go on sale in Spring of 2013. Expect the wagon to mirror F30 drivetrain choices so expect 328i and 335i models. The chances for a deal do not look good. Check out the pictures below. ...Published on 05-10-2012 10:37 PM
The vehicle pictured here belongs to BimmerBoost user Omni who was kind enough to share the results of his ESS supercharged E39 M5 with us. Raising the boost to 9 psi with an 88mm pulley he was able to hit 516 wheel horsepower up from the 473 wheel horsepower he put down at lower boost with water-methanol injection. He is very happy with his kit and this is solid power. The only question we have to raise is how did ESS hit 501 wheel horsepower at 6 psi when actual customer dynos are showing it takes far more boost and are not able to replicate the claims? ...Published on 05-08-2012 06:27 AM
Many of us know that some of the most sought after headers for the S54B32 is the Supersprint Stepped Header. Supersprint's genius plan of starting with a narrow primary, then stepping up prior to the collectors in the headers were designed to optimize low-end torque and high-end power. Over the years, Supersprint designed two different variants. One that is compatible with the OEM Flanged Section 1 along with RHD E46 M3s, another that uses it's own 2.5" Slip On Section 1. ...Published on 05-07-2012 11:51 PM
The BMW DTM victory this past weekend is a big deal and BMW is not letting us forget it nor should they. It is incredibly difficult to return to a motorsport after a prolonged absence, namely one almost two decades long, and be competitive let alone achieve a victory. This BMW video covers everything from the drivers qualifying, to the race action, to the celebration afterwards. You have every right to celebrate BMW, you earned it. ...Published on 05-07-2012 09:13 PM
We do not understand why the Europeans keep comparing the GT-R to the M5 as if it is relevant. We posted this magazine comparison on BenzBoost last week where the French Magazine Motorsport compared the Performance Package C218 CLS63 AMG to the F10 M5 and the Nissan GT-R. We have a video of the drag race between the M5 and the GT-R now and to put it mildly the GT-R destroys it by over a second. For the M5 to even remotely be a match from a stop versus an all wheel drive dual clutch car with launch control it needs proper drag racing rubber (drag radials) and a burnout to heat them up. The French drag race about as well as they fight. ...Published on 05-06-2012 10:42 PM
BMW taking the first and second spots in qualifying played a huge role in this race. Spengler took the pole and Augusto Farfus qualified in second allowing a dominating start for BMW. Spengler and Farfus were able to finish 1st and 3rd respectively as a result of their starting positions on the tight Lausitzring not allowing the competition to overtake them. Only Gary Paffett from Mercedes managed to pass Farfus securing a second place finish. ...Published on 05-06-2012 12:00 AM
Congratulations to Bruno Spengler for capturing the pole for Sunday's DTM race at the Lausitzring. This is the first pole for BMW in 20 years. Brazilian Augusto Farfas, also racing for BMW, was only 38 thousand of a second off of Spengler's pace qualifying second and giving BMW a 1-2 start for the race. Spengler also took the pole for this race last year. Mercedes driver Gary Paffett (who won the season opener and is the points leader) will be starting in third place. Can BMW get their first win of the season and in 20 years? We will see. ...Published on 05-05-2012 11:03 PM
We are not sure why Road and Track is just getting to uploading the videos from this comparison which was done back in September of last year. Well, if a publication like Road and Track can rehash content we certainly can report it. This is the same sort of comparison as was done with the Porsche GT3 and its race car counterpart. Road and Track compared the specs between the two cars as well as laptimes. ...Published on 05-03-2012 04:05 AM
Now this is a comparison we have been dying to see. The problem? It's done by Chris Harris and we can not figure out why he keeps getting these cars to test. His videos are essentially a string of his subjective opinions making for a glorified narrator with little data although we do at least get laptimes. It's great he tells us what he thinks but it would be nice to have more data (slalom, specs, skidpad, dyno, braking, 1/4 mile, etc.). Not to mention he often gives conflicting opinions as well as those that do not make sense like what we saw in his GT-R to F10 M5 comparison. At least this time he compared the proper cars. ...Published on 05-01-2012 06:48 AM
We are still having trouble adjusting to the idea of an M4 instead of an M3 coupe. It just does not feel natural with an M3 coupe being the first M3 ever and existing before an M3 sedan ever did. Regardless, the F82 is coming and until we get some concrete styling details there are going to be renderings and speculation. These renderings come courtesy of iacoski and although these give us somewhat of an idea we are not big fans of these renderings for several reasons. ...Published on 05-01-2012 04:01 AM
Introducing the 3D Design body pieces for the new F10 M5. These are all made out of carbon fiber and include a front lip, side skirts, rear diffuser, trunk spoiler, and a roof spoiler is available as well. The pieces definitely look good and compliment the F10 M5 well without being ostentatious. Photos are courtesy of our vendor IND Distribution who is accepting pre-orders for these pieces which will be shipping mid to late May. We hope to get pricing information shortly but do not expect these parts to be cheap especially considering they are 100% carbon fiber. ...Published on 04-30-2012 09:45 PM
Our service team had just a couple short weeks to produce the HPF Drag M3. There was a tremendous amount of customization, new product development and engineering that went into this build in a very short period of time. They started with a completely base shell of an E46 M3 to make sure that there would be nothing added back to the car that wasn't needed. As a result the final weight of the car complete is only 2640 lbs! ...Published on 04-28-2012 02:36 AM
Now, this video is not the best quality as it is from an Iphone. That is OK though, it is still easy to see what happens as the 135i takes the C63 by about a car length. Definitely impressive considering this is a 6 speed manual 135i and that it also had a passenger. Remove that passenger and it will buy another car length. The C63 is stock and the 135i has a BMS JB4 (order one from our vendor Burger Tuning if you like to win races), downpipes, and a meth kit. Definitely a quick 135i on the street although a tune on that C63 will be put the advantage right back in its favor. ...Published on 04-26-2012 07:33 PM
Obviously the newer car is going to be faster but the question is by just how much? The 1/4 mile times we have seen from testing thus far put the new M5 about 6-7 miles per hour ahead in trap speed translating to roughly 70 more horsepower at the wheels for the F10. The new M5 is much heavier but it also has a dual clutch transmission to help make up for it. The video here shows a roll on race where the new F10 M5 simply demolishes the E60 M5. The difference looks absurdly large in these videos, would be nice to have some timing equipment numbers to go with them to shed some more light. ...Published on 04-26-2012 05:11 AM
This is the kind of thing that reminds us how cool BMW can be at times with their attitude and advertising. The Lane Departure Warning System is designed to alert drivers that may start drifting out of their lane for whatever reason. The commercial features a male, of course, who loses his head so to speak in a nudist beach fantasy. Watch the video below to see the commercial which will never make it to television in the USA as some insane religious or feminist activist group would probably start a riot saying the world was coming an end. Europeans on the other hand are going to love it. ...Published on 04-25-2012 10:41 PM
BMW has found a formula that works with the coupe style SUV's. The X6 sent competitors scrambling to come up with an answer and BMW's head start is paying dividends. Hence the idea of the X4 which will simply repeat the same formula. BMW will simply take the F25 X3 platform and modify it creating the F26 X4. This means you can expect the same automatic transmission and engines, an N20 and an N55, as well as a low curb weight in the 4000 pound range. It should also open the door for M versions of these two SUV's who would likely share the powerplant of the upcoming F80 M3. ...Published on 04-25-2012 04:41 AM

BMW was absent from DTM for a long time, over two decades. If one would like to see BMW's DTM racing statistics, that information is available here. The first race is this Sunday and BMW is not pulling any punches. They are letting everybody know they are back and playing for keeps. This is a fantastic BMW Motorsport teaser video and it has us pumped up for the start of the season. DTM is going to be better than ever. ...
