IND-Distribution with this 1/4 mile pass has now finished their baseline testing on the new F10 M5 and will soon take it to the next level. They took their M5 to the Great Lakes Dragstrip and had Ivan from AMS Performance who has experience launching dual clutch cars take it down the strip. He managed a respectable 11.97@119.50 with what is basically a stock M5 featuring only an Eisenmann rear section exhaust that will not add all that much horsepower but certainly will give the F10 M5 the more aggressive exhaust note it desperately needs. ...Published on 09-22-2012 01:11 PM
The new S63tu motor puts out a ton of power in the new M5 and M6 motors but that power is useless if oil starvation grenades the engine. BMW issued an immediate stop sales notice on the new cars until the faulty oil pumps are replaced. Everyone who has the S63TU engine is affected (X6M and X5M owners are fine) and a sudden loss of pressure from the oil pump could lead to an engine failure. ...Published on 09-20-2012 02:57 PM
Dinan does great work on BMW's but enthusiasts often view their products as conservative especially compared to the other offerings available in the aftermarket for BMW's. Case and point, here is a Dinan Stage 2 E63 M6 S85 V10 tune compared to an Evolve Automotive Stage 3 tune. This dyno comparison was done on the same dynojet dyno in SAE correction featuring the same M6 also equipped with aftermarket headers. ...Published on 09-20-2012 10:44 AM
BMW's return to DTM has gone fairly well with BMW winning three races this season with two more races to go. BMW has been racing at a disadvantage compared to Mercedes and Audi however as each of them field four teams of two cars so the number of participants puts BMW at a disadvantage. For next year BMW will also have four teams competing in 2013 with the introduction of team MTEK. ...Published on 09-19-2012 09:35 AM
Just a couple days ago an article was posted showing a video of a supercharged M3 pulling a tuned Nissan GT-R. Fair is fair and here is a video of a tuned GT-R beating a BMW. Now, the F13 M6 (yes F13 is the coupe F12 is the convertible, BMW ignored precedent for some reason) here is stock but even in stock form the M6 has shown what a beast it is. Even with over 500 horsepower at the wheels it simply is not enough versus this GTR. ...Published on 09-19-2012 04:33 AM
BMW continues to take a bite out of the aftermarket tune market with their own mild factory tunes. Case and point, here is the new BMW M Performance Power Kit for the new 2.0 liter diesel motor which develops 180 horses in stock form. The kit raises this output number to 197 horses for a gain of 17 horsepower and torque goes from 280 lb-ft to 310 lb-ft. This motor will be available in the USA soon in various entry level models and the power kit will no doubt be available as well. ...Published on 09-19-2012 12:32 AM
Congratulations to BMW for their third win of the 2012 DTM season as well as Bruno Spengler who took the win for BMW. Spengler is in second place in the driver standings with 116 points closing the gap between him and Gary Paffett of Mercedes who has 127 points. BMW also took 3 out of the top 5 spots which increased their manufacturer point total significantly although it is unlikely they will catch Mercedes with only two races left. They do have a good chance to pass Audi now though. ...Published on 09-17-2012 08:51 PM
The Nissan GT-R is a very tough opponent and currently one of the most popular tuner platforms out there. The M3 has the disadvantage of not having turbos but makes up for it with a larger displacement motor having a wider powerband. What many people forget is the M3 is lighter than the GT-R, rear wheel drive, and also features a dual clutch transmission with tight gearing. With equal power the M3 actually will have the advantage from a roll but obviously the GT-R is a monster from a stop thanks to the traction afforded by its all wheel drive. ...Published on 09-16-2012 09:52 PM
This turbo 3-cylinder motor will be featured in various models in the BMW lineup for some time to come. Most recently it was featured in the BMW Concept Active Tourer and will be a staple of the "i" model lineup. The motor features a turbocharger, direct injection, and Valvetronic. Each cylinder has a displacement of 500cc's. It can be viewed as basically half an N55 turbo motor which is currently powering the 335, 535, etc. ...Published on 09-15-2012 12:20 AM
Here is a peak into the engine bay of the upcoming 2014 F80 M3. And yes, that engine bay definitely looks to be tight so working on it is not going to be a ton of fun. With the cramped bay and turbo (or multiple turbos) heat management will be an issue. That is why you see an aluminum water to air intercooler sitting on top of the motor. As far as power, with the new M5 sporting around 520-530 wheel horsepower stock, the new M3 should be within 100 wheel of that based on precedent. ...Published on 09-14-2012 09:40 PM
BMW is interested in purchasing De Tomaso as talks between the two for this reason were confirmed. The question is, why? De Tomaso has not done anything of merit for automotive enthusiasts since the Pantera in the 70's and went into liquidation in 2004. The value here clearly is not in production capacity or in acquiring a profitable carmaker. The only thing De Tomaso offers is the name and Italian heritage. ...Published on 09-13-2012 10:00 PM
Introducing the BMW Active Tourer plug-in hybrid which borrows technology from the BMW i8. BMW created this concept in response to growth in the small and compact luxury segment. BMW would likely slot such a vehicle underneath the 1-Series and it is not clear if it would be a one off vehicle or the start of a whole new BMW series. BMW also applies the term eDrive to the car which will from now on denote all electric and plug-in hybrid models in the BMW lineup. ...Published on 09-12-2012 08:51 PM
BimmerBoost would like to extend a warm welcome to Active Autowerke. Most of you already know the name and Active Autowerke is one of the most widely known BMW tuning firms in the United States and also one of the most established having celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. Active Autowerke has it all for your BMW from superchargers, to exhausts, to tunes, to suspension components, to your drivetrain, etc., they have you covered. ...Published on 09-11-2012 04:03 AM
A lot of excitement is being generated with independent dynos coming out showing the F10 M5 being significantly underrated. Here is a dyno video of a stock F10 M5 on a Mustang Dyno in 87 degree weather putting down 534 wheel horsepower (SAE). These runs were done in 4th gear and clearly support the 527 wheel horsepower numbers shown on the dynojet in SAE correction by IND. ...Published on 09-11-2012 02:42 AM
Introducing the 2013 F02 760Li V12 25 Year Anniversary Edition. BMW first introduced the V12 in road going cars in 1987 with the BMW 750il. Only 15 of these cars will be created at a price point of $159,695. That is a lot of money for a car that just gets some different interior trim options, 20 inch wheels, and some dark exterior trim. The price is over $20,000 over the standard car and there are no engine tweaks included. An Alpina B7 makes a lot more sense at $132,395 unless one absolutely has to have a V12. ...Published on 09-08-2012 05:04 AM
Here is a nice little boosted M3 battle for your viewing pleasure. This comes courtesy of BimmerBoost member LostMarine who is the camera car with his supercharged DCT E92 M3 running the ESS VT1-535 kit with a higher boost pulley and meth. The white E90 M3 belongs to BimmerBoost member akh23456 also being a DCT car but running an Active Autowerke Stage 2+ setup with a bigger blower and meth. The final car is running the ESS VT2-600 supercharger kit with a catless exhaust. ...Published on 09-07-2012 06:30 PM
Well here we have independent curb weight and weight distribution numbers from our Premier Vendor IND-Distribution. Yes, we all knew the F10 M5 was going to be heavy and we all saw BMW's own released figures which measure the car at 4387 with the DCT. So, the results here actually undercut BMW a bit but damn is the car a porker. BMW also states the weight distribution for the car at 52.5% front and 47.% rear which is spot on with their claims and still beats the new Audi's considerably. ...Published on 09-06-2012 08:56 PM
If someone mentioned this but did not provide a video it would be almost impossible to believe. Absolutely draw dropping someone took it to this level. What you are about to see is a BMW that is the victim of its ricer owners incredibly poor taste and automotive knowledge. Now, we all respect people who want to modify their cars but there is a point where it simply reaches hilarity and this is most certainly that point. Let's start with the fact the car is not even an M3. ...Published on 09-06-2012 06:41 PM
Ok, follow on this one folks. Even though the new 4 Series designation is for two door cars the Gran Coupe version having four doors will under the 4 Series name because it is said to be a four door "coupe." Somewhat make sense? Regardless as the 6 Series Gran Coupe has been very well received and is a stunning design BMW hopes to repeat the success on a smaller scale using the 3 Series platform. ...Published on 09-05-2012 08:30 PM
We knew the upgraded S63tu (technical update) Twin Turbo 4.4 liter V8 in the F10 M5 would be stronger than the standard S63 Twin Turbo V8 4.4 liter units in the X5M and X6M even accusing BMW of sandbagging. We just did not think it would be this much stronger. We first reported on the differences between the S63 V8's in the M SUV's and the F10 M5 in June of last year and the M5 S63tu V8 has higher compression at 10.0:1 versus 9.3:1 and runs more boost at 22 psi versus 17 psi for the SUV's. ...
