It's great to see BMW not only as an automaker but also as an engine supplier providing their powerplants for automakers with different approaches and goals. The N20 powerplant is a technical marvel making very good power and torque (241 hp, 258 lb-ft) from its 2.0 liter displacement while remaining efficient. It is for these reasons that Fisker would be interested in the motor for their entry level priced ($55,000 range) Atlantic plug-in hybrid automobile. This is potentially a big deal for BMW and for Fisker. ...Published on 10-03-2012 04:28 AM
BMW 335d enthusiasts here on BimmerBoost have been clamoring for an intercooler upgrade. Well, their calls for an upgrade have been answering by Wagner Tuning. The intercooler is available for E90 335d models and the diesel X5 xDrive35d is not mentioned but this intercooler likely could be modified for the SUV application as well. Regardless, this piece is definitely a step in the right direction for BMW diesel fans who want upgrades for their platform. ...Published on 10-02-2012 06:11 PM
Built motor E9X M3's are referred to usually as Stage 3 and above. In this instance, both cars having built bottom ends with forged internals making for two Stage 3 M3's. The camera car is an E90 M3 running a Vortech YSI at 16.5 psi. The camera car also has a passenger recording. The blue car has 12.5 psi likely from a Vortech T-Trim as this owner opted to re-use the supercharger from his Stage 2 Gintani supercharged setup that was used on the stock motor. Both cars are 6-speed manuals. ...Published on 10-01-2012 11:00 PM
Kind of a funny coincidence and fitting that Augusto Farfas would get the win at the DTM race in Valencia this past weekend after being in the news all week when the video of him taking his wife around the Nurburgring in an M3 made the internet rounds. Although BMW got the victory it was really Audi that cleaned up in points getting 61 points over the weekend compared to the 1 point Mecedes was able to get vaulting themselves into first place. ...Published on 09-29-2012 04:40 PM
On the highway high power modded cars can definitely match and beat some of the faster bikes out there. A motorcycle has a higher coefficient as drag simply not being as aerodynamic as a sports car hurting it the higher speeds go. Still, the power to weight ratio of modern bikes makes them absurdly fast. The video below reflects this well as the S1000RR is able to beat the Nissan GTR although the Twin Turbo Gallardo is able to beat the bike. ...Published on 09-28-2012 07:31 PM
GermanBoost is pleased to announce that Performance BMW Magazine featured the GermanBoost Network (AudiBoost, PorscheBoost, BimmerBoost, VWBoost, and BenzBoost) under Web Watch in their August 2012 issue. It is a humbling experience and this network is grateful that Performance BMW magazine approached us wishing to do a feature on the GermanBoost Network after BimmerBoost was featured in the July, 2011 issue. ...Published on 09-28-2012 01:33 PM
Here is an update on the upcoming Gintani S85 V10 supercharger system which is nearing completion. It is interesting to note that the S85 kits have taken longer to come to fruition versus M3 S65 V8 superchargers due to several reasons including packaging, tuning, and market demand. The Gintani system has undergone several revisions and what you below is a beautiful supercharger system featuring a Vortech self-contained blower that is close to production ready. ...Published on 09-28-2012 12:21 AM
This is definitely some serious eye candy under the hood. This setup has been done by Fluid Motor Union on the M3's S65 V8 with water-methanol injection but this would be a first seeing it on the S85 V10. It is jaw dropping beautiful and the sound is simply orgasmic (watch the video below). These velocity stacks will require a custom Alpha-N due to the deletion of the air flow meters which means your tuner definitely better know what he is doing. ...Published on 09-27-2012 04:57 PM
As Eisenman typically does they have quickly released an exhaust upgrade for a new BMW model. In this case, the new F30 328i sporting the new N20 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder. The rear section exhaust features 2x90mm tips and really opens up the sound of the N20 motor. Videos with sound clips are posted below. The N20 sounds surprisingly deep with a nice growl with this exhaust improving on the stock tone quite a bit. ...Published on 09-26-2012 04:47 PM
The E46 M3 turbo market does not have a large amount of competition but that may be changing shortly. Maximum PSI in New Jersey has been working on an entry level turbo kit for almost a year now and is seeing nice results putting down 467.9 wheel horsepower a nice increase from their preliminary 439 wheel horsepower dyno. What is significant here is not the power but the tuning on the stock ECU/DME and the entry level price point. ...Published on 09-26-2012 11:53 AM
Now here is a 1 Series that can truly be called an M-car considering that it actually has an M-motor. G-Power starts with the 4.0 liter S65 V8 from the E9X M3 and puts it in the 1M engine bay where it seems to look right at home. They then add a supercharger on top of that to make for a car with a respectable 600 horses. In an interesting design difference from the G-Power S65 V8 supercharger kits, this vehicle has an air to water intercooler. A sign of things to come? ...Published on 09-25-2012 11:06 PM
BimmerBoost would like to welcome its newest vendor Undercover Performance. They are the largest ProEFI ECU dealer in the North East United States. Their specialty is stand alone engine management installation, tuning, and maintenance. So E46 M3 owners wanting to go standalone for naturally aspirated, turbo, racing, etc. (basically whatever application) Undercover Performance is able to accommodate. ...Published on 09-25-2012 04:45 PM
Introducing the Gintani Stage I F10 M5 engine tune software. Considering the F10 M5 is barely on the streets of SoCal it is absolutely incredible this tune was developed and released so quickly. This is the first before and after tune dyno graph posted by a US tuner for the new F10 M5. The dyno used is a Dyno Dynamics which reads lower than the Dynojet and Mustang dynos most are used to. ...Published on 09-25-2012 01:53 PM
These scare your wife/girlfriend/hot chick videos seem to pop up all the time but it is tough to get sick of them especially when it is a real race car driver and his real wife involved. Augusto Farfus is a Brazilian who drives professionally for BMW Motorsport in DTM. He decides to take an M3 with his wife Liri (yes she's hot) for a lap of the ring. The video is subtitled so you can understand what is going on. ...Published on 09-23-2012 11:30 AM
IND-Distribution with this 1/4 mile pass has now finished their baseline testing on the new F10 M5 and will soon take it to the next level. They took their M5 to the Great Lakes Dragstrip and had Ivan from AMS Performance who has experience launching dual clutch cars take it down the strip. He managed a respectable 11.97@119.50 with what is basically a stock M5 featuring only an Eisenmann rear section exhaust that will not add all that much horsepower but certainly will give the F10 M5 the more aggressive exhaust note it desperately needs. ...Published on 09-22-2012 01:11 PM
The new S63tu motor puts out a ton of power in the new M5 and M6 motors but that power is useless if oil starvation grenades the engine. BMW issued an immediate stop sales notice on the new cars until the faulty oil pumps are replaced. Everyone who has the S63TU engine is affected (X6M and X5M owners are fine) and a sudden loss of pressure from the oil pump could lead to an engine failure. ...Published on 09-20-2012 02:57 PM
Dinan does great work on BMW's but enthusiasts often view their products as conservative especially compared to the other offerings available in the aftermarket for BMW's. Case and point, here is a Dinan Stage 2 E63 M6 S85 V10 tune compared to an Evolve Automotive Stage 3 tune. This dyno comparison was done on the same dynojet dyno in SAE correction featuring the same M6 also equipped with aftermarket headers. ...Published on 09-20-2012 10:44 AM
BMW's return to DTM has gone fairly well with BMW winning three races this season with two more races to go. BMW has been racing at a disadvantage compared to Mercedes and Audi however as each of them field four teams of two cars so the number of participants puts BMW at a disadvantage. For next year BMW will also have four teams competing in 2013 with the introduction of team MTEK. ...Published on 09-19-2012 09:35 AM
Just a couple days ago an article was posted showing a video of a supercharged M3 pulling a tuned Nissan GT-R. Fair is fair and here is a video of a tuned GT-R beating a BMW. Now, the F13 M6 (yes F13 is the coupe F12 is the convertible, BMW ignored precedent for some reason) here is stock but even in stock form the M6 has shown what a beast it is. Even with over 500 horsepower at the wheels it simply is not enough versus this GTR. ...Published on 09-19-2012 04:33 AM
BMW continues to take a bite out of the aftermarket tune market with their own mild factory tunes. Case and point, here is the new BMW M Performance Power Kit for the new 2.0 liter diesel motor which develops 180 horses in stock form. The kit raises this output number to 197 horses for a gain of 17 horsepower and torque goes from 280 lb-ft to 310 lb-ft. This motor will be available in the USA soon in various entry level models and the power kit will no doubt be available as well. ...
