    • E36's still rule - CES Motorsport 838 whp turbo built motor S52 E36 M3 runs 9.6@151 in the 1/4 mile

BimmerBoost focuses primarily on modern BMW turbo powerplants but let's not forget the quickest and fastest BMW's are actually running the old naturally aspirated iron-block I6's. It also helps that the E36 is a light chassis compared to the modern F30 3-Series.

So what is done to the CES Motorsport E36 shop car? This:

The CES shop car features our stg4 twinscroll turbo system featuring the new Steedspeed Twinscroll manifold paired with Borg Warner's 9180 EFR turbo that delivers incredible spool up and power for such a large turbo. Running 32-33 peak psi on a stock ECU tuned with MS109 fuel and 50/50 meth injection, we put down 838 whp and 805 wtq SAE dynojet numbers for this event on a fully built S52 motor, BMW manual trans, and CES driveline upgrades. We are re-defining the limits of what we can do for a daily driven E36 M3. Thinking you need a motor swap to get these kind of results? Here is the proof that you don't. This is true BMW power!

Just a reminder, the only place an N54 is near this E36 is on the dyno. You don't race a dynograph though.

Haha, getting destroyed by one of their shop cars is what convinced me to turbo my e46 M. Their cars are no joke.

Thank you for the article and for the exposure. We have enjoyed continuing to push the envelope with the e36 chassis, and have a few more E36 projects in the works that should turn a few more heads once completed. Our OBD1 shop car has performed extremely well with a very minimal setup, but it just goes to show how capable these motors still are when done properly. While our focus has started moving forward to the newer E and F body platforms, our first love is and will always be with the E36 Click here to enlarge

        My pleasure.

I still have a soft spot for the E36.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
