    • Don't sleep on the N63 - Gintani gets over 120 lb-ft tune only out of the 2012 BMW F13 650i

The S63TU tends to dominate the BMW twin turbo V8 tuning discussion. That is not surprising considering the absurdly large numbers it puts up. The N63 is somewhat forgotten but look at how much power Gintani is getting out of it tune only.

This is on a Mustang dyno no less:

Power goes up from 342 at the wheels to 434. Torque increases from from 370 to 492 lb-ft at the wheels. That is a massive torque increase and they even managed to improve the spool a bit.

From 3500 rpm to until redline there is a massive increase in area under the curve despite the torque curve falling off fairly quickly. The N63 certainly can benefit from a turbo upgrade.

Once someone figures out how to get S63/S63TU turbos and manifolds on the N63 variants with the tuning sorted out we will see a huge surge in potential.

Even now with just a tune the N63 shows it is quite potent.

This is good - but, IMO, still fairly mild for a TT V8. Tuning is the hurdle it seems.

        with the tuning sorted out
I followed the N63TU BMS JB4 development optimistically, but now BMS has put the JB4+BCM for N63TU (which was hitting around 600whp on E35 mix) into permanent Beta status because the CEL will be constantly on without the auto-clear function BMS abandoned.

And the BMS BCM hardware you need to make real power on the S63TU is really designed for the S63/TU, so I believe is not 'officially supported' by BMS ...

Are there any N63TU tuning options to break 600+ whp/tq on stock turbos? I am not totally up to date on all N63tU options, so I may just be unaware of something else out there. Or is the BMS JB4 BETA the best way to go (if you can live with a CEL all the time)?

EDIT: realize this is a Mustang dyno, so would likely be 500+ on a Dynojet - but still nowhere near 600+ whp.

        You're comparing an N63 on a Mustang to N63TU's on a Dynojet...

Those are some impressive numbers, but I think the highlight of the article should be those rims. Click here to enlarge

True, but I factored that in edit, and N63 and TU both seem to have a relatively low ceiling so far in tuning. I'm just a little surprised there is not more flash tuning available, or that I don't see any(?) other vendors matching the 592whp on this platform that BMS did with JB4+BCM and N20 TMAPs. Again, there may be something I missed, started looking at the N63TU more seriously lately.

Comparing different dynos alone and their peak numbers isn't always perfect.

That said, the N63/TU should continue to do better and better.
