    • Watch a turbo upgraded BMW F80 M3 S55 spank a Ferrari 488 GTB

Oh my! This network called out the performance of the Ferrari 488 GTB in an article early this month. The new twin turbo mid-engine V8 Ferrari obviously is not a slow car but it does not seem to be nearly as fast as we were led to believe.

The F80 M3 with a Pure Turbos Stage 2 S55 upgrade is more than a match for it. The M3 has PTF Bootmod3 ECU tuning with a BMS JB4 stack and Fuel-It! upgrades to the fuel system.

Does that Ferrari looks like a 137+ trap car? Not from the M3's perspective.

I preferred N55 sound too. The S55 has catless dp, AA midpipe and stock muffler with valves open Click here to enlarge

Only exhaust I've liked on the s55 is the Remus offering. Super stout motors though wish the n54 made power as easily.

Per psi from similar spec'd turbos the n54 makes more power. Its one of the great mysteries of the s55.

Have any proof of that? The turbine housing is bigger on S55 so it would surprise me if that was the case.

How much boost do both the modded M4 and stock 488 run?

Magazines claim a peak of 36 psi for the 488 but I'd like to see a boost readout...

Yes! If that 3.9L revver ran over 30psi it would be making over a 1000hp and would rip a new A$$ hole on this M3

Most who have monitored boost see 14psi peak in the lower gears and 15 in higher ones, but so much conflicting info regarding boost

Yeah there is no way that is 36psi! that thing would be raping a pure turbo S55 without even trying if that was the case.

I'm not willing to spend the time digging up links to threads, but from what i can recall, the oem s55 units are about the same as RB or the old vargas stage 2 turbos. Similar fuel and mods on both the n54 and s55 and the n54 typically puts up better numbers.

Very fast BMW. But, I bet the Ferrari owner is saying to himself, "Yea, but I have way more money".

Could very well be. I indeed don't have the money to go buy a ferrari. But quite happy with the modded M3 at this time Click here to enlarge

No doubt. He can mod too of course. Would be interesting to see it run with a tune...

Actually that is an accurate number they say it's not a sustained Boost level at 36 pounds but it does hit that in the higher gears....so your conclusion is pretty flawed.... Either way they both showed up to a race event and the Rari got smacked! No excuses run what ya brung

My conclusion is not flawed lol. "not sustained" means its just a boost spike and isn't really what the engine is seeing and its not significantly impacting the power output.
With such an efficient/well flowing engine like this Ferrari and with 3.9L of displacement and the size of those turbos, if it was really making 36psi of boost the Ferrari would smoke the M3. No questions.

What you are saying is like saying "the N54 makes 20psi of boost stock because I see boost spikes that high" but really the engine isn't seeing 20psi it is just a consequence of where the sensor is.
