    • Throwback Thursday: A perfect 1970 BMW E9 3.0 CSi

BimmerBoost loves the BMW E9 design. As does BMW who released a modern tribute a couple years back. The 1970's 3.0 CSL is the most famous example winning several touring car championships. The car handled as well as it looked.

The one you see here is a 3.0 CSi which was sold in the United States from 1970-1974. The 9.5:1 compression 3.0 liter I6 offered 200 horsepower and fuel injection. BMW paired the motor to a 4-speed manual.

Just a beautiful classic BMW and this one is well maintained and tastefully modified. Quite simply, gorgeous.

Such a beauty, I'll take one with a custom chassis with a s65.

One with an S62 was done: http://www.bimmerboost.com/content.p...s-BMW-E9-3-0cs

A custom chassis with an S65 or S85 if it would somehow fit would be epic. I think an S38 belongs under the hood though.

Hey I can't argue with that! The s38 is a great motor, you don't see it used nearly as much as other straight-6s.

        It's because of the cost.

That is because it does belong there.

Not a lot of room to throw a turbo on top though.

You can build the M30 though for half the price of an S38 too. Get a late model B35, throw some high comp pistons in it. Port the head, cam and headers and its going to make more hp than the S38 and will be reliable and cheap to maintain. Its truly an unerappreciated engine. If boost is your thing turbo a stock engine and have a 400whp reliable setup for really cheap price.
