    • DCT Build Part VIII - Putting it back together

As of right now, the transmission is completed and the cooling system is in the process of being completed. Where we left off was the car being taken to SSP for the build of the cooling system. To make this all make sense we will not skip ahead, instead showing you each step. Here SSP is getting ready to put it together with the new clutch discs. They laid out all the parts and used 3d scanning equipment to record them to aid in the production of the parts. Everything was laid out to make sure the parts were clean and accounted for. Additionally, they were working on prototype viton seals for the transmission. The next update will have details on the cooling system.

We'll see, Gustav acted like a prick and puts down Gintani constantly so not sure why I should grace his event. Smacking down all his fanboys would be a blast though, as well as telling him to his face what I think of him.

You are correct, people are not allowed to tape themselves at his events. Nice guy eh? Not a cheap whore trying to squeeze dollars out of other people or anything.

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, right now, I want to see if they can do what we want to do. I'm seeing how Tightie's car gets wrapped up and the low boost numbers are supposedly pretty good. The more experience they get with tuning his, the better for me and for Brian (Niterider) who is supposed to get the same setup as me.

Just got off the phone with Kris@SSP. Good news is the cooling system is going to apply to all models using this trans, so Z4, 335is, 135, etc., will all have a cooling option. No concrete pricing yet but expect it to be under $3k. Should have pictures and some videos for you next week.

Is Brians car at Gintani getting work done too? or waiting till yours is done first until he does the same.. btw is your car at gintani getting wrapped up or still have parts at ssp too?

Brian's car and my car are being built simultaneously. We both are on the same page.

My motor is at Gintani, the physical car is at SSP.

Just wanted to respond to some stupidity I see in other places:

        1) Cannot be opened, if it breaks the entire tranny needs to be replaced. It's a BMW/Getrag thing - they don't let anyone open them. Computer diagnostics is where it ends.

        2) Transmission itself (part) costs $12,000 - with labor you're looking at $14-$16k for a replacement.

        3) It's a pretty solid transmission from what I've read/experienced/heard, if you plan on purchasing your car I would certainly invest in the extended warranty to avoid a potentially very expensive repair on the tranny.
        1. It can be opened, has been opened, and is not designed as a single piece. As in, it has screws, it can be taken apart.

        2. Sure, it's expensive to replace. Or you could just uh, get these when the time comes and save yourself $10+k: http://www.bimmerboost.com/showthrea...ighlight=discs

        3. Warranties are for pussies.

How the hell are people this behind on the topic?

        Small update.

They are cutting the final pan tomorrow and should have a video of that to put up.

Car is expected to be back end of April. Then, motor in, then blower on, then payback time.
