The Audi 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 is an incredible motor certainly worthy of the awards it receives. The motor won a very impressive 4th straight Ward's 10 Best Engine title. The executive editor of Ward's Auto stated, ""It's hard these days for engines to stay on our list for two or three years, but the Audi S5's 3.0L supercharged V6 has managed four straight years, and it does so with stunning grace and power. This engine does everything well -- it's quiet at idle and potent when prodded -- in a number of vehicle applications." ...Published on 12-10-2012 12:20 PM
This is definitely a fast B8 S4 and the same vehicle that pulled pretty well on a bolt on E92 M3 at a recent air strip roll on racing event. So, it's faster than a bolt on manual M3 but what about a tuned E92 335i? The result is not pretty for the 335i either with the S4 walking away. Fortunately, the race is not just an exterior view but also features a picture in picture view from the S4 to give perspective. The race is a half mile long from approximately a 40 mile per hour roll. ...Published on 12-10-2012 02:13 AM
The Audi 4.2 V8 is somewhat long in the tooth and for owners wanting to squeeze more power out of it, say those with the Audi S5 before it got the new supercharged V6 3.0 TFSI motor, supercharging it really the main option for big power gains. This particular owner went to GMP Performance who hooked him up with a APR Stage III supercharger, DXD clutch upgrade, and new brake lines all to support the roughly 187 horsepower which will be added to the car. ...Published on 12-07-2012 08:51 PM
Hopefully you heard the big Audi news by now that the new C7 RS6 Avant was officially revealed a few days ago. It did not take long for renderings of what the sedan version will look like to pop up. Well here are sedan renderings by Theophilus Chin that show off two angles. It would have been better if he chose some more direct angles especially from the rear but it's at least something to go on. ...Published on 12-07-2012 02:28 AM
This is quite simply awesome. 034 Motorsport took a second generation Audi TT-RS and turned it into a beast of a road racing car. The motor is the same 2.5 liter inline-5 that sees duty in the TT-RS tweaked slightly to output 372 horsepower. Not huge power, but offering great power to weight when one considers this car is 820 pounds lighter than the street car on which it is based at 2464 pounds. ...Published on 12-05-2012 09:30 PM
Finally, here is the new C7 Audi RS6 although it is in wagon form. The sedan will be introduced later just as was the case with the previous generation car. The new RS6 ditches the Twin Turbo V10 from the last generation model for a version of the 4.0 TFSI already in use by Audi as well as Bentley. This is the highest horsepower version of this motor used by the VW Group thus far eclipsing the 520 horsepower of the Audi S8 and the 500 horsepower of the Bentley Continental GT V8 both with a 4.0 TFSI V8 variant. ...Published on 12-04-2012 08:31 PM
The new Audi S3 is already on the market sporting a 132 pound lower curb weight than the previous generation model along with more power, 300 horsepower to be exact. A new RS3 is pretty much a sure thing. The car would not show up earlier than as a 2014 model and would sport the previous generation 2.5 liter turbocharged and direct injected inline-5 cylinder motor. Power would likely rise from the 335 horsepower of the previous model. ...Published on 12-03-2012 10:02 PM
Discussion from Audi regarding the next generation TT such as a return to the original style language and aggressive targeting of lightweight high performance models have prompted a large degree of speculation on the next generation car. This has naturally led to speculative renderings and the ones we have posted below are quite simply excellent. It's safe to say if the car looks as good as imagined here it will be a success. ...Published on 12-01-2012 07:46 PM
Taking automotive designed and technology and applying them to regular goods is not anything new as Porsche Design does this all the time. Audi decided to showcase their talents on something as simple and basic as a chair. This chair being anything but basic however weighing only 4.8 pounds thanks to its chair legs made of folded sheet aluminum welded using a cold metal transfer process and the seat shell being made of carbon fiber composite materials. ...Published on 11-30-2012 07:55 PM
The B8 S4 is a stout platform offering very large gains from bolt-on mods including a tune. The E92 M3 being naturally aspirated and not supercharged from the factory does not gain as much but starts with more horsepower to begin with. GIAC tested their Stage 2 software at the airstrip and the result was their B8 S4 with the S-Tronic dual clutch transmission pulling a 6-speed manual bolt on E92 M3. ...Published on 11-30-2012 02:55 AM
Quite the diesel roll-out party from Audi who launched four new diesel models at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2014 Audi A6, A7, A8, and Q5 all get a diesel motor option. The same engine is shared with all the models which is a 240 horsepower 406 pound-feet of torque 3.0 liter turbo six-cylinder powerplant. The motor will provide roughly 24 city and 36 highway MPG in the A8 and this number will vary based on the weight of the other models. ...Published on 11-27-2012 06:44 PM
Audi continues to rack up impressive magazine comparison victories this time in the "4-door coupe" segment versus the Mercedes CLS and BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe. In the January 2013 issue of Road and Track they pick the A7 over its rivals which they made sure to equip with all wheel drive. Interestingly, the Audi was the quickest through the 1/4 mile but the Mercedes was right there with it in trap speed at 111. The BMW was slower than either even with the updated N63 V8 sporting 445 horses. ...Published on 11-26-2012 05:31 PM
Automotive sites are paying a lot of attention to these pictures from Regular Exclusive and AudiBoost isn't quite as thrilled. Why? Well, several reasons. Regula Exclusive is a German designer who is brand new without any photos of this kit on an actual car. These are just renderings so why are people treating these like a real product? Body kit manufacturers need to get out of the habit of releasing renderings as if they are the real thing. ...Published on 11-25-2012 02:30 PM
Audi blew everyone away with the A3 Sedan Concept which sported a 408 horsepower version of the TT-RS 2.5 liter inline-5 cylinder motor routed through a dual clutch trans to all four wheels. This car was the closest thing Audi had produced to the B5 S4 in quite some time. Well, the A3 sedan is coming as the spyphotos below clearly show and hopefully with it comes a high performance RS3 version exactly like the concept. ...Published on 11-24-2012 01:30 PM
1000 kilograms is 2204 pounds. This is exactly the amount Audi is targeting for a lightweight, high performance model of the next generation Audi TT. Lofty goal? Absolutely, but they seem serious about it. The new Audi head of technical development Wolfgang Durheimer is setting the bar very high, “A car in the TT segment weighing 1,000kg would be a very interesting proposition. It would be a derivative of the TT and the challenge is to make it a quattro too – that’s what I’ve asked my engineers.” ...Published on 11-23-2012 09:42 PM
This is not confirmed officially yet but initial reports point to Audi developing a new range topping supercar based on technology from the Le Mans winning race cars. The car tentatively said to be badged an R10 and will be a diesel hybrid model mirroring drivetrain aspects from the R18 E-Tron TDI hybrid diesel race car. This means all wheel drive but iwth an electric motor at each wheel. This in combination with a turbocharged diesel powerplant. ...Published on 11-21-2012 10:23 AM
An 1/8 mile is really nowhere near long enough for cars with this much power to stretch their legs. However, these videos are really well done offering a great angle and good quality showing what happens. The Audi R8 V10 is said to be Twin Turbo although it does not perform as strongly as a turbo R8 should. Even with its all wheel drive advantage in a short race the McLaren MP4-12C manages to pull it towards the end of the 1/8 and being a stock car it tends to support the conclusion the R8 is running fairly low boost with its Heffner setup. ...Published on 11-20-2012 11:50 AM
The BMW X6 has changed the SUV game and the upcoming Q8 is evidence of that. Originally thought to be the Q6, Audi will call their BMW X6 rival the Q8. The car will be underpinned by the next generation Q7/Cayenne platform. The idea of the car was apparently well received in potential customer surveys leading Audi to believe it will generate an additional 25,000 yearly sales. And the Q8 is just the beginning. ...Published on 11-18-2012 06:51 AM
Here is a nice set of renderings of the upcoming Audi RS7 that has been testing for some time now. It is likely the RS7 as well as the new RS6 will share the same specs. That means a hotter version of the 4.0 TFSI from the Audi S8 which is already putting out 528 horsepower and powering the Audi S8 to some very impressive acceleration times. How much hotter? Likely similar to the version found in the Bentley Continental GT which puts out 567 horses. ...Published on 11-17-2012 03:51 AM
When the Audi SQ5 was announced in June of this year it shocked a lot of the automotive world that the performance SUV was launched with a diesel powerplant instead of a gasoline version based on the 3.0 TFSI V6 motor also used in the B8 Audi S4. The diesel powerplant certainly offering formidable performance with 313 horses and 479 pound-feet of torque but Audi would not bring this car to the USA. Well, rejoice, as it seems another SQ5 is in the works this time with the gasoline 3.0 TFSI. ...
