    • F10 M5 into the 9's - BimmerBoost member sets a new S63TU record running 9.9@140 in the 1/4 mile

Last year BimmerBoost member @allmotor_2000 opened eyes with his F10 M5 running 10.1 @ 139.76 in the 1/4 mile. BimmerBoost speculated 9's and 140 trap speeds were around the corner. Well, both have been achieved as @allmotor_2000 went 9.990 @ 140.74.

Here is how things differ from his previous run:

Wheels: 19" Mickey Thompson Rear (305/35/19), 20" Stock Michelins in front
      Fuel: MS109 + 91
      Meth: 100%
      Boost: 28psi
      Pure S1 Turbos
      Upgraded Clutch
      Ice Tank
      AMS DP
      BPM Tune
      BMS JB4 + BCM
      BMS Intakes (*new)
      RPI Exhaust
      DSS 1200hp Axles (*new)

All seats removed and Recaro as driver seat.

He added DSS axles and a BMS intake. That was enough to break into the 9's and go over 140. Speaking of which, his best trap was 142.48:

We could have seen a 9.8 or maybe even a 9.7 but the Famoso drag strip kicked @allmotor_2000 out for running 9's without a roll cage. Speaking from experience, Famoso is not any fun when it comes to accommodating those trying to set records. As if the car becomes much safer at 10.0 seconds than 9.9.

So how does this stack up to Audi RS7 or Mercedes E63/CLS63 AMG competition? The M5 beats either to the 9's. Rather incredible considering BMW's competition uses all wheel drive and automatic transmissions meaning they are much easier to launch.

The only M157 powered car to come close is GAD Motors M157 swapped W204 C63 AMG with an all wheel drive drivetrain which ran 9.945 @ 142. However, this is like swapping an S63TU into an M3 and adding all wheel drive. Not exactly a factory powertrain.

An SL63 at Yas Marina (not NHRA certified) went 10.24 @ 142 to put things in perspective.

There is no M157 V8 E63/CLS63 or 4.0 TFSI V8 RS6/RS7 that is in the 9's or over 140 miles per hour in the 1/4 mile. Considering how AMG and Audi fanboys were beating their chests when the F10 M5 and S63TU motor could not be properly tuned you could call this poetic justice.

I would love to see what extent he went to with his reductions mods. Was it a good amount or just minimal weight reduction?

Major stuff, for M5 owners. Mostly par for the course for N54 owners. These //M guys are competitive with their racing so I'm not sure if he's going to share all his tricks. You'll have to refer any addl questions on the setup to the driver directly.

That's moving. Funny part is that it beat the N54 to the 9's and they have had a decade to get their $#@! together.

Many reasons for it. Not one has to do with the problem of the n54 not making enough power to do it :p.

This makes me want an m5 even more!

Um what part of V8 Twin Turbo makes it hard to understand why it would get there faster. Also in 2007 when the N54 came out, the BMW tuning was no where near where it is now. Now a days you buy a new BMW, put a meth kit, and a JB on it, and away you go.

There is much more extensive changes, including extensive weight reduction done. The owner wants to keep everything done quiet I am told, but these were not the only two changes.

Great times, but if the owner thinks it has 9.8 in it as it sits I'd be much more impressed to see it go 9.99 at full weight, or at least with a full interior.

I don't think he has anything to worry about. Other than the ACM M5, the only other M5's that are 800whp ish don't race where they can put down times where it matters. They get hard just from racing in Mexico 24/7.

It's a bad platform for drag racing and alot of turbo lag for the cars that actually make power. Not sure why people continue to waste time trying to make N54 cars fast on the strip. There are much better motors and platforms out there to do that.

Nothings hard to understand, lol. It's nobodys fault the N54 is inferior. I'll pick a V8 all day over the little 3L that runs high 10s after a decade of intense development. Where are the 9's and 10's on the strip if the development has improved SO much over the years? 6th Gen Camaro just came out and is already in the 9s. If you want a dag car you don't pick an N54 car, just the way it is.

Car has a 9.8x in it. If I can drive the car to/from the track... its all fair game.

Any case I am retiring until someone beats this time... this is my DD and the kids love being dropped off to school in the M5 :-)

What's not mentioned is the tuning and boost mapping for drag racing - that took a reasonable amount of time to map out. I don't see many stock suspension cars getting 1.5x 60-foots on 19" wheels and drag radials.

Yes - I drive the R888's usually (right now stock wheel/tires)... but may switch to MT's for the street. Waiting on a new set of wheels. The stock's just burn 4th gear on the freeway!
