    • 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe to get M157 5.5-liter turbo

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is where Mercedes-Benz begins bitch slapping BMW across the performance sphere. While BMW is busy playing around with efficient dynamics Mercedes has just upped the ante confirming with Insideline that they intend to put the twin turbo 5.5 liter M157 twin turbo V8 into the C63 Black Series coupe. Mercedes is not playing around, this car will quite simply annihilate the M3. It is likely the M5 will be its victim as well and anything else in the BMW lineup. Mercedes does not hold back its cars to maintain an artificial hierarchy and with the black series label is producing some of the best performing and most hardcore German performance vehicles in existence. AMG just made a lot of people over at BMW very nervous, well done Mercedes, you have earned our respect and then some.

True test of how good this car will be in my opinion has as much do to with what route they go with transmission selection as it does with the 5.5TT. If they toss in a DoubleClutch in this car it might just be true winner....if they stick to a slushbox auto, i have no bid for it, regardless of how much Mulepower or Donkeythrust that engine makes. lol

It will be a question of if the DCT can handle the torque. An auto on the strip with this motor will likely put up impressive numbers...

Mercedes is looking better and better performance-wise. They are just lumbering luxury saloons anymore, they stepping on BMW's toes. $#@! that, kicking ass actually.

Exactly, with this Black Series stuff they really started beating BMW down. Mercedes makes more hardcore cars than BMW? WTF is going on?

i think the tranny and the weight is going to be the thing that will snag some bmw customers, the c63 is def a 1/4 mile beast but to have there smallest care weigh almost 3900lb is crazy!! I got plenty of power and i love my m6 to death but god im mad at the track when im out driving the guy in the gt2 but cant beat him in the turns, there is only so much you can do giving up a 1000lb at the track lol, so i dont know if it will happen but if they can build that car between 3400-3500lb that will be really something special

i remember when all the s85 guys found out bmw was going to dump it for a tt we were all so devastated, who cares about gas miles!! this is there flagship cars make up the gas miles on your volume cars not your m cars, the dinan and all the other strokers out there have around 630hp, now imagine a 5.8l v10 that revs to 8400rpm but from the factory and its not a lambo!!!

Cars can't get lighter due to the safety nonsense and with German cars they have a ton of luxury gadgets. The CLK63 BS is a very good handler for a 3800+ pound curb weight. Same with the GTR. The M6 is very heavy as well but not as we nimble as either of those two.

A GT2 is simply too light to mess with, it is a true track car.

Imagine a 5.8 liter V10 revving to 8500 rpm with two small turbos...

I would love to see them continue NA though but its over with. They sold out, BMW gave us racey NA motors almost as good as Ferrari in everyday cars. It was something special, oh well, there is still Porsche.

you know sticky its so funny you say that ferrari thing, i used to have some big time debates on my exotic forums about why the s85 at 5.0 revs over 8k,makes a 100hp per liter na,drags a 4000lb car over 200mph and all it needs is oil changes and basic maint to stay healthy well over a 100k miles. now you take the 4.8l out of a 430 with pretty much the same performance specs but your need 15-20k in maint in 20k miles or so worth of driving, its a 200k car it should be the best of the best. Now i understand there is an exotic premium but we are talking in the neighborhood of about 17k or so more!!! or 20k cuz bmw is free lol they always tell me this crap about paying for the heritage but sounds like robbery to me

Ferrari uses timing belts or at least they used timing belts instead of chains so they require more maintenance. It is a function of their design.

The 4.3 liter in the F430 is a pretty sweet motor, puts out as much WHP as the S85 stock from less displacement.

v8 ferraris stopped using timing belts as of the F430

I dont care if they use a slushbox. It will hold more torque and shift plenty fast for me. I am now completely 50/50 between BMW and Merc as my next ride when lease is up. Merc is like a hot mistress to me now, BMW is like a good reliable wife; not the same fun anymore.

Very well said and I must say I have grown disillusioned with BMW and Mercedes is becoming more and more appealing...
