Here is a race that has caused some confusion on the boards and rightfully so. We have a Renntech tuned SL65 Black Series that is putting out 651 horsepower to the wheels. The GTR is believed to have 551 wheel horsepower from bolt on's with an AMS intake, exhaust, and tune. The Nissan GTR is essentially said to have an AMS Alpha-6 package which is capable of propelling it to a 10.6@130 in the 1/4 mile. ...Published on 08-14-2012 08:41 PM
Never heard of Anibal Automotive Design? Neither have we. Their website has no info and these pictures come from their Facebook page without any additional details such as the materials used or cost. Regardless, this is a very interesting take on the R230 SL unlike any other we have seen. The widebody is done exceptionally well with great looking fender flares and sideskirts. Where the design falls apart is the hood that attempts to make the headlight look more aggressive by cutting a sharper edge as well as the hood which attempts to mimic the McLaren SLR. ...Published on 08-14-2012 04:22 AM
Car and Driver rendered the new W212 E-Class facelift which is coming next year. Mercedes will be changing the headlights, grill, front bumper, rear lights, rear bumper, and fenders. The interior will also get updates that make it more ubiquitous with the other high end cars. For those unfamiliar Megaupload was a file uploading service that offered online file storage. The owner is Kim Dotcom who is known as Kimble. He has been convicted of insider trading, hacking, and embezzlement. Megaupload made him a lot of money becoming the 13th most popular site on the internet and in certain estimates was said to be responsible for 4% of all internet traffic. Issues arose when disputes over copyrighted material being hosted were brought forward. The SLS AMG is a very fast car. A dual clutch transmission 563 horses definitely make the SLS move. The Lamborghini Aventador on paper at least appears to be more than a match for the SLS Roadster (which is only 88 pounds heavier than the standard SLS). The Aventador is heavier than the SLS and has all wheel drive. It also has a 700 horsepower 6.5 liter V12. So what happens when these two go head to head? ...Published on 08-10-2012 08:54 PM
Sport Auto recently sent a female editor to the AMG factory in Affalterbach, Germany to assembly an M159 V8. We mention she is female as there are no female AMG engine builders currently on the AMG team and also to show that with guidance from these engineers she was able to put together the Mercedes M159. Like it or not chrome foil wraps are gaining popularity. If you want attention, as in you are begging and screaming for it, a chrome wrap may be for you. Sometimes the result works like that Gold wrapped X5 that made it on every automotive website. Even the bright green chrome foil 5 Series seemed to have its fair share of fans. Well, now we have chrome purple foil SL to add to the list and the result will no doubt be debated. Is it too much? Different in a good way? Gorgeous? Gaudy? The AMS M157 Twin Turbo V8 tune sure seems to look like a potent option for the new 63 AMG motors. The video below shows an AMS tuned CLS63 AMG at the drag strip running a stock C63 AMG, a Mustang GT500, and a Nissan GTR. The strip is PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) in Florida and the summer heat has a big influence on the times with the stock C63 managing only a 12.8@109. ...Published on 08-03-2012 10:13 PM
The M278 4.6 liter twin turbo V8 may not get quite as much attention as its 63 AMG M157 big brother but it is a plenty potent motor. It shows here with a Renntech tune only S550 on street tires managing a 12.4@112 in 90 degree Florida heat. The Camaro runs a 11.8@122 which is not all that impressive for a built motor 6.8 liter LS3 with 4.10 gears and a supercharger. Here is a very good race video showing two runs from a dig featuring a Weistec supercharged C63 AMG and a modified 2003 Mutang Cobra. The Cobra has a ported blower and is putting out 515 wheel horsepower. The C63 AMG has the Stage I Weistec Supercharger kit with a full exhaust. It may be the Stage I or Stage I+ so in the 500-530 wheel horsepower range, possibly more thanks to the full exhaust. ...Published on 08-02-2012 11:20 AM
The new SLK55 AMG makes for one of the better drivers cars in the Mercedes lineup due to being a lightweight (for a Mercedes in the USA) two seat roadster. The new Variant 3 suspension allows for the car to be lowered between 5mm to25mm at the front and 15mm to 30mm in the back. Prior Design has some great looking Mercedes body kits (check out their W216 CL widebody kit) and this is no exception. Now keep in mind this is just a rendering but we have faith the final product will mirror the pictures here based on Prior Design's previous products. This kit includes a new front bumper with LED's under the headlights, vented hood, blacked out grilles, and rear diffuser. Hot on the heels of the Insideline C63 Black Series test Motortrend now provides their results. It even looks like this is the exact same test car which likely will be passed around to many automotive journalists. Motortrend hit a 12.1@117.6 which is more along the lines of what we expect versus the 12.2@115 that Insideline hit. The Mercedes Works team went into the last race before the summer break in damage limitation mode after a horrible qualifying session that saw both drivers knocked out of Q2. Schumacher's woes started even before the race could start. After all the driver lined up on the grid for the start. Charlie Whiting, the race director had some issues with the race lights and Michael turned his engine off thinking the start was aborted. The Mercedes AMG team so far is having a race weekend to forget. The team struggled with Fridays practice sessions and continued with qualifying. In Q1, The Merc team started off slow on the hard compound tires, setting times far off the pace setter. With 5 mins left in the first session, both Rosberg and Schumacher switched to the softer tires to avoid early elimination. Rosberg and Schumcher finished the session in 4th and 12th respectively. Talk about a bold claim. Now Speedriven has done some great work so do not get us wrong but 1200+ horsepower out of the M275 is a very bold claim to make. The 1200+ HP Anarchy package includes Garret Tial Turbos, custom Speedriven manifolds, custom air to water intercoolers, custom intake, fuel pump, larger injectors, transmission upgrade, and all associated hardware. ]Here is a very interesting new Mercedes crossover. This is the first we have heard of the GLG but Autobild is saying that the model is coming. It is expect to share the A-Class platform which means it will be a front wheel drive with optional 4matic. So, it will not exactly be the sturdy offroad capable vehicle the G-Class is. The C63 AMG Black Series Coupe obviously looks like it means business. As it should, it is a Black Series and the aeryodynamics are designed to be functional with track performance in mind. The car is not cheap with an as tested price of $129,725. You expect incredible performance at that level and well the car is good but tough to defend for the money. Insideline gets a 12.2@115 out of it which is not bad but certainly not really superior to the standard C63 or one with a P31 performance package for that matter. ...Published on 07-25-2012 09:42 PM
The dynograph posted below is the result of the Eurocharged M278 Stage I tune on a 2012 CLS550. Gains are a very impressive 52.4 wheel horsepower and 65.7 pound-feet of wheel torque. The ECU must be mailed in to the Houston location for the upgrade, free next day shipping for quick turnaround included. The German Grand Prix did not go as planned for Mercedes-Petronas. Schumacher qualified well in 3rd place putting himself in position to do well. Unfortunately, he would ultimately finish in 7th place picking up just 6 points. Rosberg did not fare better finishing the race in 10th place picking up just a single point. These results simply will not due and do not help the Mercedes team much if they want to move out of their 5th place position. ...
