• SpeedDriven M275 V12 Turbo Upgrade

SpeedDriven has announced that they have a billet wheel upgrade for the M275 Mercedes V12 twin turbo. This upgrade is available for every iteration of the twin turbo V12, CL600, S65, SL 65 Black Series, etc. There are no dyno graphs available yet but we are wondering how they are doing this exactly. It has been said it is difficult to modify the turbos due to the turbos being integrated into the cast manifold. The stock turbos are K24 turbos which are well known in the Porsche world and often modified. We look forward to further details, the upgrade retails for $5990.

Could it be a tuning issue rather than a hardware issue?
The hardware is fairly simple due to what I mentioned. There are various K24 upgrades out there.

Tuning I don't see as a big deal either, tuners have a good grasp on these motors since we have had them since 2003.

I don't know what it is, surprised no one has tried. The cars are getting fairly cheap though so you would think the aftermarket would be picking up. This motor deserves more attention.

That is a complex design, they turbine housing is part of the manifold casting. Also, the packaging is very tight. The compressor is practically butted up against the log header. And then there is the log header, not exactly built for efficiency; it is a packaging constraint.

I think most of the problem with entering a market like this is, will your system fit?

But if the Porsche guys modify the k24 turbos the same should be able to be applied here working within the packaging constraints, right?

I believe Sticky is right... why couldn't the K24 be sent to Blouch and have the compressor wheel be swapped out for a Mitsu 18g or 20g like the Porsche guys do? Then address fuel and tuning, and you're looking at big power, for "relatively" cheap.

The SpeedDriven upgrade is a billet wheel, IIRC, so that would add significantly to the cost.

Replacing the CHRA guts shouldnt be a problem, as long as they keep the same turbocharger housing and header it will bolt back in. Typically getting stock housings to flow more solely due to impeller swap doesnt net as big gains as swapping out whole turbos. But it's an upgrade and good option to have nonetheless.

Exactly, this is what has me scratching my head about M275 tuning.

It is a good upgrade but then you ask yourself if it would be worth paying that much money for such diminishing returns. In my case I just went aftermarket.

It would be a much cheaper alternative than what you did for some very nice gains. The K24/18g's in the Porsche world produce some very nice results for example.

I feel you, but you will have something truly unique. I just hope there is a trickle down effect, I want more big turbos on these motors.

I just spoke to Marcin, they are working on finalizing the upgrade, also we are tuning my car next week I believe, thru the Block tuner.
