This is not a new comparison as it was done previously with the F10 528. Now time to see how far the N20 has raised the entry level (in the USA) 3 series game. Just by how much does it do that? Well, Insideline compared the 2010 3.0 liter N52 naturally aspirated six cylinder powered 328i to the new 2.0 liter N20 turbo four cylinder and the results are not all that surprising. The N20 328i ran the 1/4 mile in 14.1@98.9. The N52 328i ran the 1/4 mile in 14.7@94.8, fairly large difference for two motors rated at almost the same horsepower (240 for the N20 vs. 230 for the N52). ...

The N54 had been stuck in a bit of a rut. There were upgraded turbo options out there but these were relegated to small twins often utilizing the stock housing. A large single turbo simply was necessary to take it to the next level. All the previous attempts at large single turbos had been abandoned. Vishnu showed it is in fact possible and at 22.5 PSI with 94 octane fuel and meth broke the 600 wheel horsepower barrier with a very impressive run hitting 626 although the graph was uncorrected. ...

Why do people keep comparing the M5 to the GT-R? It is idiotic. We said as much when Autocar did it a few weeks ago. First, Mr. Harris starts with bagging on the E60 M5. The SMG III gearbox was really that confusing for him? The miles per gallon were an issue? It's a 5.0 liter V10 that revs to over 8000 RPM. Gallardo owners are not complaining about their MPG and neither was anyone who could afford an M5. The new F10 M5 is not going to be a Prius with its 17/22 MPG. Frankly, the fuel economy hit of the E60 M5 is worth it when you consider it does not need fake engine noise piped into the cabin. ...

S85 V10 supercharger kits have lagged pretty far behind S65 development despite the V10 making its debut well before the V8. There are several reasons for this but the supercharged V10's are starting to come into their own. RPI refers to this setup as a Stage III and we are not exactly sure what that means. Higher boost most definitely but what else? Meth? Race gas tune? What fuel was used for the dyno runs and what boost? Why are these details missing? ...

The P31 C63 AMG is a very strong car in stock form. While the regular C63 AMG and the DCT M3 is a drivers race the P31 is definitively stronger than the DCT M3 performing more like a standard C63 with a tune. So what happens when a tuned DCT M3 with bolt on's takes on a P31 C63? Well, check it out below with multiple runs from the cars. The M3 is claimed to have a tune, pulley, exhaust, and x-pipe and and the C63 AMG coupe is stated to be stock.

Congratulations to BMS (Burger Tuning / Motorsports) for raising the bar on stock turbo N54 performance yet again. The vehicle used was a E82 135i steptronic with a JB4, down pipes, dual cone intake, CM10 meth setup, FMIC, and race gas. The mile per hour (fastest) record in the 1/4 came on a run of 11.3@125.24. The elapsed time (quickest) record came on a run of 11.259@122.86. The trap speed dropped a bit with the better ET which is not surprising considering it came on a much better 60 foot. These records were set at Famoso Raceway which is a decent track but certainly not the best strip for setting records. ...

We already knew the BMW N20 four cylinder was underrated from its 240 horsepower rating as we saw in a dynotest of the Z4 sDrive28i which put down 233 to the wheels. That dyno was done by Insideline who recently did a dyno of the new F30 328i and overlaid it with the Z4 dyno. As luck would have it, EAS also did a dynotest of the F30 328i so we have more than one graph to go on. For the record, Insideline was wrong about claiming they exclusively had the first 328i dyno. ...

Things are progressing nicely on the M3 front with Gintani recently recording 828 horsepower at the crank in a manual E90 M3. The car has a low compression built motor (compression will not be revealed at this time) and hit 16.5 psi of boost from a Vortech YSI. The blower has more in it and could likely be overspun to the 22 psi range but for now 828 horsepower at 16.5 psi is very impressive and more than anyone has made up until today. Expect to see more out of these Stage III cars, like BimmerBoost's own project M3, in the next few weeks.

The new N20 motor certainly is opening eyes. The base 3 Series is basically on par with a US E36 power and acceleration wise. This was an 8-speed automatic version that weighed in at a hefty 3480 pounds. Definitely not light or comparable to an E36 M3 in that regard but the base 3 series has just gotten a lot faster than it used to be. The manual version is about 60 pounds lighter and we would expect to see high 13's in the 100 mph range out of the car in capable hands on the drag strip. ...

BMW released two new videos showing off the F12 coupe and F13 cabriolet M6. The videos are not super exciting just short clips showing the cars moving. No acceleration comparison or thrashing around a road course. The videos would have been better without the music for us to be able to hear the engine opened up on the M6. What we really want to see is how the F12 M6 stacks up to the F10 M5. With the M6 being much lighter than the M5 this generation the fastest vehicle in the BMW lineup is poised to be the new M6. ...

In December of last year we brought you a baseline MAHA dyno of the new F10 M5 by PP-Performance. PP-Performance has now finished their Stage I F10 M5 tune and the result is 492 at the wheels or corrected out by the dyno to 617 horsepower at the crank. Compared to the baseline dyno this is a gain of 48 horsepower at the rear wheels and 54.1 at the crank. Once the dyno corrects the numbers for the weather conditions the gain stated at the crank is 44 horsepower. It seems we are looking at a gain around the 50 horsepower range for a Stage I tune on the F10 M5. ...

So, the new M6 we all were aware was on the way is here. BMW did not seem to want to wait for an official Geneva reveal for whatever reason and released the car in their press feed today. It is exactly what we expected, a 6 series sharing the M5 drivetrain with a 560 horsepower S63tu twin turbo V8. Wheels are the same style as the previous M6, maybe BMW is running out of ideas? No curb weight stated in the press released (read it below) which is just odd but they do state the power to weight so we were able to calculate it out to 4088, heavy. Regardless, car looks great and we are happy to have it. ...

The reveal of this information did not go exactly as planned as BimmerBoost vendor Evolve automotive wanted the reveal to take place here. Unfortunately, certain competitors got wind of Evolve entering the hotly contested E92 M3 supercharger market and set out to do their typical discrediting of competing products. It is for this reason that Evolve wanted to stay away from any other sites and do their reveal here. The official reveal may have been spoiled somewhat but here are the details on the three upcoming versions of the Evolve supercharger kit. ...

Yes, you read it right. 692rwhp with an HPF Stage 2 running AEM. We swapped in the new Precision 6766 turbo and turned the boost up from 13psi to 15psi on Gus's brutal M3. This car has quite a bit of weight removed and has an amazing powerband. It pulls so hard and so clean. The torque is almost perfectly flat to red-line which makes driving it so amazing. This is the perfect track powerband. Gus has the ECU unlocked so he can make any changes he wants and do datalogging himself. Enjoy Gus. ...

BMW made a wise decision to include a six cylinder model in the Gran Coupe lineup. The only real competition for it is the Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera V6. The Panamera starts at $75,200 but does not offer a turbocharged powerplant. The Audi A7 3.0 TFSI six cylinder on the other hand starts at $60,125. The BMW price starts to look bad once on considers a CLS550 with a twin turbo V8 starts at $71,300 meaning you can get the V8 Benz for less than the six cylinder BMW. ...
