      Here we finally have it. No more teaser videos, no more showing a fender here or there, no more hype, this is the real deal. BMW gives us the final product and by no accident chose to show it with the E30 M3. Putting the 1M Coupe which has accomplished nothing up on the lofty pedestal of comparisons with the E30 M3, arguably the greatest BMW M ever made, is not showing the E30 M3 the proper respect. It is not a spiritual successor to the E30 M3. However, that is a debate for another time and let's focus on the specs and photos.

      The motor and tune is the exact same as the 335is and 2011 Z4 sDrive35is. Nothing special here folks, same N54, same 335 hp. Disappointing? In our opinion, for an M, yes. This shares the same motor as other cars in the lineup with no changes. Not even a different tune? In our opinion, the powerplant is a major letdown.

      The transmission is a 6-speed with extra cooling which it no doubt will need for the guys who take this thing out of the track. It sends power to the "M" differential which is just a part derived from the E92 M3. The borrowing from the M3 does not stop there, as the suspension is lifted from the M3 as well. Starting to see a pattern here? No doubt you see it with the wheels which are lifted from the M3 competition package with 245/35/19 and 265/35/19 tire measurements. How about those brakes? Lifted from the M3 as well.

      So far we have a parts bin car with the same motor already available and the same parts that were already designed. So... where is the "M" magic? In the body work of course. Look at those great fenders! The car certainly looks like it is a real M car. That counts, why do you think we got all those teasers of fenders and bumpers?

      The car will sell, they will sell every last one. People have already bought the hype. This isn't an E30 M3 and never will be one. As the guys at insideline put it so well, "No doubt the carmaker would like to recast the 2011 BMW 1 Series M as a spiritual successor to that beloved M3. That's a pipe dream." It is a great looking car that will be fun to drive but this new M era has us shaking our heads in disappointment of what M has now become.

        Pending the actually msrp. It could be worth the premium over the 135i msrp, if you plan on doing a lot of the mods that the 1M offers cosmetic/performance/chassis.

        It all depends on what they try to sell it for over here.

        I think this whole thing is a joke. I mean yes, if you plan to upgrade a 135i it makes more sense to just get this out of the box but holy crap, nothing special about it other than body work?

        the beginning of that writeup is just $#@!ing stupid. Who gives a $#@! about the e30 M3. The 1m is amazing and its going to be a great offering for BMW fans. I expect it to do well. IMO it looks very good.

        BMW is the one who keeps putting the 1M coupe and the E30 M3 in the same sentence. So what is $#@!ing stupid is that they are doing that.

        So M cars are now about how they look? Awesome, M should start selling body kits, oh wait, they do.

        the e92 M3 is a joke. not worth the $ over the 335i or 335is for that matter.

        yes apparently M cars are about looks because thats the only thing the M3 has over the 335i

        I totally agree, using the 335is engine setup is a joke. (Lets hope the M5 isn't just an off-the-shelf X5/X6M engine).

        But for those N54 fans out there, that do a lot modding comestic and performance wise. This could be their dream car.

        It is on a completely different level from the 335i or 335is, no comparison. The E92 M3 is a real M car with a real M motor and you don't understand that which is fine. That is likely why you like this parts bin car.

        You don't know what an M car is, you have never even had one. Secondly, the E92 M3 is a beast and offers performance potential this thing will never see. Read up because I get sick of having to school you constantly.

        If you intend to have an N54 mod platform, this is a dream in a sense but without an auto it won't dominate on the strip and with no DCT it leaves out that option so it isn't perfect in that respect.

        The M5 will be just an X5M motor just making more power because it is routed to the rear wheels, that's it.

        Right, just forget the rest of the car that goes with it. The M3 is the benchmark, best drivers car BMW makes and a real M. Not a parts bin car thrown together in an afternoon.

        I guess only time will tell how it stacks up against what are thought to be traditional M cars.

        I for one, would like to see the pricing specs for it.

        Really? Because I had an Imola E46 M3 and now have an E92 M3. What do you have?

        If you had an E46 M3 you should know how stupid your comment saying an M3 is not worth the money over a 335 is. The M3 is a beast, the 335 is a puppy. The M brand isn't supposed to be cost effective, you are paying for something special. At least that is how it once was.

        I don't know if time will tell, we basically know what this is as those with performance modded cars with an N54 have already been driving this.

        lol seriously you are hating on this car hard. It has all the suspesion conponents of an e92 m3 so its defenitly going to perform better than an M3.

        I am mostly in agreement with Sticky, although I still have faith that the 1M will be a rewarding car to own. It might be similar to the US E36 M3 in many ways.

        It is lighter with a shorter wheelbase, it will handle better than the regular M3 due to that. Although the GTS would crush it, so performing better than the M3 isn't really accurate.

        I'm hating on what BMW has become, that isn't the cars fault.
