    • 10 second barrier broken! Mikewads runs 10.8 1/4 mile at the drag strip in his supercharged M3, the S65 beats the N54 and S54 to 10 seconds.

Went to the dragstrip yesterday determined to get into the 10s. It was a Buick Grand National race that allowed test and tune between rounds. I surprised many black Buicks when a lonely white BMW blazed down the track. Car was at full weight, 96 octane (I added 2.5 gallons of VP100 to the 93 already in the car), and no burnouts (went around the water box every run).

On the first run I went 11.53 @ 126.7 mph on just supercharger (with a 2.01 60' time). The in car video below shows that particular run. Enjoy!

Next run I added a 100 shot of nitrous in second gear which gave me a 11.07 @ 131 mph. So close, but not a 10...

On the final run I decided to hit the nitrous as soon as I went to full throttle in 1st gear. It felt like a Toyota with a stuck throttle hit me in the rear when the nitrous came on, but the beefy 305/35R18 Mickey Thompsons held their ground.
      The results 10.87 @ 131 mph

Kind of a ridiculous point, I see you are holding the M3 to the standard of a GTR which has AWD and that makes no sense. Like asking when a ZR-1 will run 10's naturally aspirated, does not make sense.

Also have to point out that this does beat the E46 M3 to the 10's, which is amazing, as well as the N54.

The S65 still has a long road ahead of it and this is a major milestone, congratulations.

        What was your launch technique?

Mike, it would be great to get your other slips as well so I can add them to the 1/4 database. Please post them when you get a chance!

I still can't get over how great this is. I'm kind of pumped up now regarding M3 performance and optimistic.

Nice job man, I was going to drive over to that event yesterday and I talked myself out of it. I'm kicking myself now, I'd have loved to see you make that pass. Again good job at making it below the snake eyes.

I never hold it to GTR standard. I know the GTRs AWD cant be compared to the RWD M3 but the Supercharged ZR1 runs 10s stock. I want to see a M3 run 10s with a supercharger but without nitrous. Again the ZR1 is supercharged and it does 10s stock with drag radials.

How many supercharged M3's are there vs. ZR-1's? How many M3 owners drag race?

You want to see 10's with a supercharger? Well obviously you can see that the power on SC alone is there, it will happen. Now you say drag radials, good, because street tires is a bit ridiculous to expect namely on a strip.

How about that the M3 puts down more power for less money and traps higher even with less boost and smaller displacement and more weight? Pretty impressive that not only is it mentioned in the same sentence but it holds its own.

Seems we have all been a bit spoiled when 130 traps are dismissed.

        ^Seriously?

Congratulations, that is a great ET and trap!!! Those SC M3's are badass! But why didn't you use the water box??? I'm a little confused why you wouldn't maximize your launch if you are going for an ET record.

dude thee E46 owners are pussies....... They dont launch the cars hard the e92 owner did... and set up the right tire combo with good air pressure!!!

Put it into the E92 M3 DCT perspective, it is tough to get a good 60 foot. I think only one person has hit 1.7xx 60 foots (me).

He probably avoided the box due to issues with the DCT overheating after a solid burnout. I have had that problem when SC'd, but not when NA.

The E46's have a way weaker driveline namely in the rear.

I would launch my car at 6200 rpm pass after pass, the E92 M3 really beefed things up, it is a better drag platform.

        what was the nitrous 60-130?

Not a conspiracy tin foil hatter but i see a nitrous trap that matches drew's pump trap and I see a pump (and 6 mph lower trap) 60-130 from you posted that beats drews time. Just a thought.

His 60-130 was achieved with nitrous: http://www.bimmerboost.com/showthrea...-New-60-130mph

No conspiracy, on boost alone he is slower than the Gintani Stage 2's on meth, what we all already knew. With nitrous, he is just as fast (possibly faster? but he lowered his boost) but definitely has a quicker ET.

Okay, the overheating theory would make since. It seems like DCT tranny isn't optimal for drag racing, but I would still love to have one. Must be awesome from a roll with the lightning quick shifts.

i was under the impression the other 60-130 was off the nitrous, hence PG up and arms about the boost.

The E46 rear end is weak, that already has been determined. It is not a launch friendly car, nor has anyone even really tried it to do it. I used to drag my car when it was making around 500-550whp, but it was a ridiculously horrible track.

Well, it is more difficult to extract performance from. Since it is faster than the manual and obviously more consistent I would say it has the potential to be better. The GTR illustrates this well. The problem is in getting it to not overheat but SSP has that covered with the cooling system they are developing.

The manual is tried and true, but the DCT is a superior option when it works as intended. So, it can be the optimal setup.
