    • Discovery Automotive destroys customer's car along with what was left of their reputation

Take this as a warning BMW enthusiasts. Discovery Automotive was able to create a good reputation for themselves on M5board where they profited from exposure in cleaning up RMS mistakes. Shadowman, Bill of Discovery Automotive, was able to force his way into the lucrative high-end BMW tuning scene through the easiest route available, which is taking advantage of M5 owners. To be honest, we fell for this as well seeing Discovery Automotive take great care in posting their builds to give the appearance of a high end shop only for horror stories to start to surface.

What happened in this particular instance is that Bill took a car that was under his care, a twin turbo Ford GT, and went out to a spot known to the locals as a "drag strip" and abused the car resulting in losing control and wrecking it. Bill, William E. Knobloch, would begin to distort the truth attempting to skirt responsibility for what happened. What happened was he behaved irresponsibly with an immensely powerful vehicle that did not belong to him and wrecked it playing around like some teenager who couldn't control himself. Feel free to read the whole story in quotes below.

Take this as a warning when sending your car to a tuner or who you are using as your tuner. This isn't the only tuner who has behaved irresponsibly with a car under their care. How many of them go out under the guise of "testing" only to race around with someone else's property? Well, at least we all know that Discovery Automotive is one tuner BMW fans can cross off the list, permanently.

This is a good point. I would also like to add it is easier to maintain composure knowing one has the means to not be affected by the loss. For others, a car of that nature represents far more than just an object and also required a far greater monetary sacrifice.

Ah, that is insane and absurd! The lack of property and morals/ethics of business conduct - this is truly a shame.

Who actually owns Discovery Automotive? I know there is Sean and Bill. I've read on other boards that Bill is seeking medical coverage from the GT owners insurance. Thinking about how Bill asked for proof of insurance coverage and the vehicle registration makes it seem like they are making sure, or at least trying to make sure, that they can't be held liable for damages such as this. However, on M5board there was the thread where a dealership wrecked a owners M5 and now that has turned into a major $#@! storm with the M5 owner sueing Autobahn motor cars.

They would be the two main guys, right? Not sure what the breakdown is exactly, we should find out.

I can't believe he is adding an injury claim on top of this, does he have absolutely no conscience? The owner of the GT would have to go after him if the insurance company doesn't. The GT owner just seems like way too nice and easy going of a guy to do so.

The M5 owner is a different situation but he is going after a dealership that already has lost a lot in bad press and most likely will want to settle to stop the bleeding at some point.

That is very unfortunate. Why did he try to get out of the "accident". He willing took the man's ride to tune it, and was doing something he could not handle and dertroyed the car. You did it, you pay for it. And he thought he could lie, and did not think they would do an accident reconstruction? That is not smart. And now DA has a terrible reputation/no reputation. The GT owner is to b commended for his actions, seems like a nice fellow from what I read.

I was thinking the same thing, although I did envision a couple leg kicks as well.

The guy is clearly lying, he was driving aggressively, which is what caused the accident. Just reading his response tells you that in his last sentence; he shows a lack of confidence in his description of what happened and wonders if people will buy it.

This guy has a an SV 670 and he said he has no money to pay? $#@! off shadowfag. Look at the Lambopower thread where it was first posted. This guy has a sv 670 and a decked out H1.

And he had the audacity to say he cant pay and he wants money from the insurance?

If it were me this guy would've disappeared.

Thanks for stopping by, seems everyone is finding out about this.

It seems once all the links starting going up they protected the site. Seems they don't want to be contacted on this matter...

        Gentlemen,

With the help of Ray Hofman, Shadowman, and our Forum Sponsor Classic Auto Insurance, all of the parties involved have come to an agreement that satisfies everybody. This was a sticky wicket but the circumstances here are not unusual. Although almost all new car dealerships maintain garage keepers liability insurance, almost no small shops or tuner shops do. This incident was a wake-up call that will probably result in a lot more smaller shops carrying such insurance, and a lot of automobile owners becoming aware of liability issues when something goes wrong.

I have spoken to all three parties numerous times over the last three days and everybody, at all times, has conducted themselves in a professional and gentlemanly fashion. All three parties have made financial sacrifices and I'm proud to call all of them my friends.

Ray Hofman is on his way to Spain to attend a Matech event but as soon as he is able I'm sure he'll post up in this thread. I expect Bill and Drew at Classic Auto Insurance will do the same. As far as I'm concerned, this matter is over. Thanks Ray, thanks Bill, thanks Classic.

        All the best.

I'm really glad the owner of the GT has received satisfactory compensation, but I do question this one statement -

Although almost all new car dealerships maintain garage keepers liability insurance, almost no small shops or tuner shops do. This incident was a wake-up call that will probably result in a lot more smaller shops carrying such insurance
Regardless of whether or not DA was insured, does anyone think their insurance would have simply paid out, given the circumstances of the wreck? This wasn't a break-in or a fire on the property. This was someone getting into the car, driving it recklessly on public roads, and crashing it. What insurance covers negligence?

Anyhow, good news that it worked out for the owner of the GT.
