    • DCT Build Part VII - Taking the BMW E92 M3 DCT to the next level, 800+ wheel horsepower clutch disc capacity

You have seen the DCT taken apart, what it looks like inside, worn clutch discs, and brand new higher capacity clutch discs made. The new discs handle 600+ and 700+ whp respectively. With my power goals, SSP has decided to build a clutch pack that is beyond anything developed at this time for the DCT. What is the power goal? Well, it is beyond what is currently available and SSP is currently developing a clutch disc pack capable of over 800 wheel horsepower.

      How is this being done?

The current clutch discs are of a thicker material than the stock discs. However, the stock clutch pack has 9 discs in it. By increasing the number of clutch discs they are going to increase the maximum torque capacity. By going to a thicker material and increasing the total number of discs to 11, the DCT in the BMW M3 will be taken to a level no one previously thought was possible. This is going to be similar to the GTR 1000 hp clutch setup by SSP (pictured) but the GTR uses more clutch discs albeit smaller, thinner discs.

What else is being done and how much time will it take?

The DCT is going to receive a cooling system based on what SSP has done with the GTR's. This will be a DCT specific application and will be great for the guys who track. No more overheats, no more staying away from the track on hot days. Look for a separate build thread specifically for the cooling system in the next few weeks. Regarding the time period, expect completion next month with the car returning fully assembled and capable of handling the increased power.

Well we both know that is a loaded question. : )

I don't think this is the timeline you discussed with them originally is it? If so, then ignore my last comment.

Honestly, all I want to see is your car back on the road and you enjoying it. Not trying to create drama. Hate drama. Like checking fools that create it. Don't want to be that dude. ; )

There really wasn't a timeline as different companies were involved. Did it go longer than estimate for the trans? Yes.

A good time waster would be to go in this thread and compile all the quotes from people asking when the car will be done into one post.

        NOT IT.

Sticky, mind pointing me to a post where you have addressed programming the tcu for the ssp clutch pack. Think I've missed it. I'm a dct fan, so I'm curious how its been resolved.

The programming for the DCT is something still being worked on.

They are doing it but have their own sources for certain things like anyone else.

So the car is back in one piece, just waiting for the DCT programming and good to go?

I have all but given up on this project.
All the things that these companies are miticulously doing but apparently do not hold on memorysticks.
Alll the handmade lines and the smart placing of coolers that can not be seen on pictures for no pictures are posted, all the other now no longer mentioned secret delaying project details that can not be spoken off, it all got the better of me.
This car will be a young classic if it ever leaves Gintani.

By now, yes I do, and probably a lot of people with me think this.
I want to see some progress other than words and requests for patience.
2,5 years ago when this build and thread started it was packed with pictures.
Last pictures in this "build" thread are on page 36!!, from half a year ago.
Apparently nothing worth showing has happened since then. It's all talk and delaying.

I think you are being a bit ridiculous considering this isn't your car.

Ya, I'm sure you want it done faster than I do.

I don't care how long it takes. Your comments aren't helping complete it. What, I'm supposed to go picket outside the shop? It is getting done. IT'S DONE WHEN IT'S DONE.

Bro, Are they not taking pics of the custom parts their installing on the car? I love taking pics of all the parts i install on customers cars wether they be new or old. Taking a couple of pics should be good for the promotion of these new products etc.
