    • DCT Build Part VII - Taking the BMW E92 M3 DCT to the next level, 800+ wheel horsepower clutch disc capacity

You have seen the DCT taken apart, what it looks like inside, worn clutch discs, and brand new higher capacity clutch discs made. The new discs handle 600+ and 700+ whp respectively. With my power goals, SSP has decided to build a clutch pack that is beyond anything developed at this time for the DCT. What is the power goal? Well, it is beyond what is currently available and SSP is currently developing a clutch disc pack capable of over 800 wheel horsepower.

      How is this being done?

The current clutch discs are of a thicker material than the stock discs. However, the stock clutch pack has 9 discs in it. By increasing the number of clutch discs they are going to increase the maximum torque capacity. By going to a thicker material and increasing the total number of discs to 11, the DCT in the BMW M3 will be taken to a level no one previously thought was possible. This is going to be similar to the GTR 1000 hp clutch setup by SSP (pictured) but the GTR uses more clutch discs albeit smaller, thinner discs.

What else is being done and how much time will it take?

The DCT is going to receive a cooling system based on what SSP has done with the GTR's. This will be a DCT specific application and will be great for the guys who track. No more overheats, no more staying away from the track on hot days. Look for a separate build thread specifically for the cooling system in the next few weeks. Regarding the time period, expect completion next month with the car returning fully assembled and capable of handling the increased power.

You act as if you are paying or waiting for it. Don't worry though, when it's wrapped up, your car can be a nice little warm up.

I ask because its all you talk about. Of course you will bring my car into the discussion. Keep the thread on topic and answer my question.

If you read the thread you would already have the answer to your question. Check page 9 maybe rather than coming into my thread with your negativity?

It's all I talk about? Uh, read the title of the thread and ask yourself that question again and why that my be.

FYI, I did read page 9. I was hoping for more clarity then "a few months"! It is not negative, it is a legitimate question, so don't get all defensive.

Plus, why should everyone else have parts available except us? GTR guys have a plethora of tranny options but DCT M3 owners are mostly a bunch of pussies. Not to mention most are leasing their cars. No one else would do it so I took one for the team to show what the M3 is really capable of. Instead of people being happy someone is doing it they talk down about the car being under construction. What will make it all worth it is seeing them $#@! out from running it... soon Click here to enlarge

Fontana is incredibly slow, but let us know how it goes. Drag radials... run drag radials and heat them up if you want some good times.

If I could be more definitive than a few months why would I not have written it when asked previously?

You didn't ask for more clarity, you instead made an exclamation about the length of time with a negative connotation. It is a legitimate assessment of what you were insinuating.

No need to bump, SSP is here and I expect them to post with the rest of the details ASAP.

I have machined 2 different pans so far, I don’t like either one of them. Our third go at it will look awesome. We are incorporating the M3 logo into the pan. The cooler is mounted and all of the lines are run. I am just waiting on one machined bracket and then I will send over some pictures. I don’t want to send you pictures of something prototyped. The BMW crowd needs professional looking parts.

Great news! I am not surprised most non-modding guys do not understand the complexity and the time required for custom builds. That is why I only mod my "week-end" cars.

        Man, did you say it.

I can't believe some people don't understand that what is being done is something nobody has done. And people question the length of time it takes to do it properly with no blueprints to follow and everything being custom? Glad someone doing a project of their own gets it though.

This is just my toy so to speak so the time aspect doesn't matter to me, getting it done right does. It's a project car for BimmerBoost and no other BMW site has anything like it.

I agree with you sticky. Not many people understand teh ammount of work it takes to complete something for the first time. Also, something so custom and out of this world.

So, did you decide on the ysi?

Yes, I make sure to ask them before I do anything with any of my possessions.

Just because that is how you have to go about modding your car doesn't mean the rest of us do. Call up SSP and ask who pays and who they deal with. You can do the same with all the other vendors. I understand kids living with their parents like yourself have trouble understanding how people at my age have more money than you do but maybe if you spent less time worrying about my money you might get some of your own? That way you could stop trying to look rich by talking about your daddies cars Frank?

Not that it would matter with your license being suspended for a year, so typing is probably safer/easier for you anyway than figuring out how to do what I do.

Of course not, and I like it makes people jealous and angry who can't do it thsemselves.

Main thing is this is a fun project for BimmerBoost which is my hobby and cost and time is irrelevant. It is something for car enthusiasts to appreciate, not kids who can't drive or mod their own car.
