    • Independent ESS (esstuning.com) E39 M5 S62 Supercharger Dyno Numbers Continue to Come up Short?

An ESS supercharged E39 M5 owner took his car to specialty Z to get a dyno and the results were not exactly what one would expect. Hitting 7.3 psi of boost with DIN correction the car only puts up 472 whp through an aftermarket exhaust. ESS portrays the car as over 500 whp on 6 psi through the stock exhaust. This is now a repeat pattern of the ESS S62 supercharger not living up to the claimed numbers by over 30 whp even with more boost than claimed.

When looking at the graph, the car is dangerously lean toward redline where max boost hits. The A/F ratio definitely needs to be cleaned up and we would advise the owner to get a new tune.

      Car on the dyno:

Here are the numbers in SAE, big difference from the inflated figures marketed using correction factors which bolster the results:

Dynos used to market, claimed 6 psi, no boost graphs ever used on ESS marketing dynos:

I sence a ESS fitty LOL....

But seriously, these guys should stop tuning cars..... ESS is from Scandinavia isn't it? There are quite strict regulations about advertisements and incorrect numbers in the EU... Men could sue them or at least claim back the money spend...

These guys are fairly new to this in the US and their tuner is average at best. They are just a small time Norwegian tuner expanding into the US market.

The thing is, it is a good product, just not what they make it out to be.

So why all these stupid dyno advertising games?

There are a bunch of pissed off ESS sc'd people on m5board wondering where their horsepower is.

They have dyno manipulating forums and customers for years. Ive had this argument with them years ago over the S54 kits as well. Dyno's never made sense and proof was never established.

Would be nice for them to replace their manufactured graphs with independent customer dynos so people would at least know what to expect.

If my car was 40 whp short from what I thought I paid for, I would be angry.

As a matter of fact, the only independent dyno to crack 500 whp needed aftermarket headers, race gas, full exhaust, and more boost: http://www.bimmerboost.com/showthrea...dependent-Dyno

I just don't get why they play these dyno games and why they don't show the boost figures they use to hit them. I'm starting to feel that they use more boost for their own dyno figures to inflate the numbers when marketing since there is such a large gap between customers and what they claim.

Come on now, that is much leaner and the curve is far more abrupt than the tune we were discussing before. This also is a stock motor, not built.

That curve was just as bad if not worse, just was hard to tell due to it being a pic of the dyno print out. Anyways, this isn't the place to talk about that other graph, just glad you now see what really bad AFR's look like Click here to enlarge

I think VF graphs just may appear different through your perspective. This looks/is worse and this is the place to talk Click here to enlarge

        ESS is doing fine.
They have quality hardware and results.
BHP has LONG since been a TAD over the GENERIC kit's results.

Are there ESS customers here that have complained about the product or the dyno numbers?
How many SC customers out of ESS's TOTAL SC sales have a problem?

Ratio of pissy to happy please.

Agreed, would have been amazing. The cost was just too much though and M5 owners are less likely to mod to that level than M3 owners. Also smaller amount of M5's to work with. The S54 is in a lot more cars.

Agreed. It seems most M5 owners already think their cars are plenty fast, so the ESS kit is really only for a select few. It is a shame that there really is no "cheap" power adder to this car. The Dinan S2 package is $30k and is way way over-rated at 470bhp, makes the ESS kit seem like a steal.
