    • Bolt on E60 M5 versus PP-Performance tuned F12 M6 convertible top end highway runs

Here we have venerable naturally aspirated S85 5.0 liter V10 going up against the new twin turbo S63TU 4.4 liter V8. The convertible M6 is tuned by PP-Performance and the S85 V10 with bolt ons simply will not be able to match the power output and torque of a tuned S63TU. It shows with the M6 taking every run decisively although the M5 shows well considering its bolt on modifications (exhaust, pulley, filter, scoops) and no ecu tune or headers.

Would the M5 do better with an aggressive tune and headers? Absolutely. Would the M6 do better with exhaust modifications other than being tune only? Absolutely. Keep in mind this is also the F12 M6 convertible and not the coupe which means the M6 is carrying roughly an extra 300 pounds.

It is interesting to note that in the final run where they go up to what appears ~180 miles per hour the M5 inches back. Not nearly enough to make up the ground but it shows the top end strength of the S85 V10 even without forced induction. Still, bolt on S85's are not going to beat tuned S63TU's with the power, torque, and shift speed of the dual clutch transmission working against them.

I mean, I am shocked... That's a tuned M6 with 726 HP, I was expecting this to be MUCH worse of a kill. Understood that the V10 is simply a highway monster, but I was expecting it to fare worse than this.

        Pretty impressive considering no tune.

That run at 1:00 min mark was the most interesting race.. 70mph roll, the M5 stood around and stopped the pull up top.. Impressive for such a old car. But its aganist a convert on one hand which is a heavy ass pig. But on the other hand the M6 is tuned with more power and a DCT. Cool comparo. Im guessing top end engine power and gearing of the SMG helped that top end, and the heatsoak on the M6 im sure.

Fly bys at the end are sick.

Yes, that is a Vert for the M6 but lets not forget this a E60 M5 not a E63 M6. I would like to see that race. At the end of the day the S85 (S65 too) is King and always will be for me... Don't Care for the new engines.. Fast as hell and very easy to tune, no question about it. But this Motorsport derived V10 is M at its best... The sound, rarity, high revs etc made these truly special engines, you had to spend exotic money to have something comparable...... I know it will never be like that again which is a shame ( Damn Emissions).. Whoever has these cars should hold on to them.. Trust me I regret getting rid of my M6..

Why? It's been done and S85 vs S85 goes to the lighter car.

Here is a interesting part of these race, high speed 3rd gear roll, and once into higher speeds, looks like the E60 stops the pull and begins to gain..

It inches forward at the higher speeds and the F12 stops pulling.

You mention ~180mph...does the m6 have a limiter removed?? Is the limiter problem only on M5s that no one has been able to solve?

im not sure about the 180 mph thing because the module to remove the m5 limiter (ex310) isn't on the market anymore so you really can't do it without a tune. the m6 is tuned so yes it is delimited
