    • Modern BMW 3-Series turbo inline-6 power for an older 3-Series - BimmerBoost member does first ever N55B30 into E36 swap with iDrive

Turbos have been done to death on the E36 3-Series M5X/S5X inline-6 engine family. Nobody, however, has swapped the already turbocharged from the factory current N55 direct injected inline-6 BMW powerplants into the E36 chassis. That is, until now. BimmerBoost member hackentt completed such a swap in record time. He posted on the BimmerBoost BMW Performance forums that he was undertaking such a swap and just over a month later showed a video of the car running with the N55 motor under the hood.

That is worthy of some serious respect especially considering he did this all himself using an E9X donor car. He managed to get the engine to fit and swapped the dash, transmission, I-Drive, and even the start button which is a very nice touch. This build was completed by him on a tight budget making it all the more impressive.

Check out the photo progress as well as the video below. Much respect from BimmerBoost to @hackentt on doing something nobody has done up until this point. A very cool way to get turbo power in an older 3-Series.

Finished it enough to be able to drive it. All I can say this thing is very fast. You feel the torq right away and engine pulls hard all the way to the redline. Feels faster than E36 with S54.
