    • BMS E82 135i FFTEC N54 Single Turbo Kit Dyno Testing - 585 wheel horsepower

Been racking up miles on the 135i and fixing little things. And finally had a chance to get to the dyno today for some baseline testing. As I've mentioned I've been VERY pleased with the FFTEC twin scroll top mount 5862 turbocharger kit. On road performance and spool is much better than any other combinations I've driven.

      Testing details:

2008 135i Steptronic (original trans, for now)
JB4 single turbo firmware & supporting flash
FFTEC 5862 top mount single turbo
BigTom intercooler, BMS OCC, BMS stat, etc
Walbro 255 inline fuel pump mod
Factory exhaust system (did not bother to open cutout)
~E30 mix for for 17psi runs. For 20psi+ runs enabled meth kit for fueling using a single CM10 nozzle.

      Notes:
      1) Was not going after any power records so left the tuning very conservative all around. At the same boost levels there is easily another 15hp in this setup with more advance. And no reason this turbo can't be cranked up to 28psi when the trans is ready.
      2) It made a lot more power than I was expecting. It's basically on pace with the 6466 at these lower boost levels only with much better spool.
      3) If the trans would shift this car would be seriously quick. I'll get to work on that ASAP.

Log looks pretty good T. When are you going to go past 20psi? Is there currently a ceiling at 20psi for some reason? I don't remember.

At the moment I'm having problems holding timing post shift consistently at any boost level. Works great one day. Then the next day dies. So slowly trying to work through that.

@Terry@BMS , for the ST tuning, which aspects of the tune are controlled by the BB flash and which are controlled by the JB4?

The JB4 runs everything. The flash is setup in such a way to simply certain things for the JB4.

And who are those people and would they care to comment? It's issues like this that we need to talk about. Enrita has the full rebuild and though he is not at this level of power his Trans is fine. He does track his car so plenty of abuse there.

I can't directly comment on level10's quality, but common sense tells me that if the upgrade was the answer, everyone would have it.

It would be nice if people that have this upgrade commented on how it's holding up.

Yeah, but think about it, how many people have actually needed the trans work up until now when we're really starting to see ST's and Stage 3 TT kits coming to life. I mean, there are only a handful of cars out there to benefit, and not like we're hearing of issues all the time from Stage 2 turbo guys that drag their cars all the time. I honestly am thinking this upgrade may be better than we have given credit. The failure I heard about was a budget rebuild with only clutch pack upgraded, not even alpina flash, trans cooler, or nothing, and little to no break-in, straight to the track for hard launches...of course it broke again

I hope you right! The auto e9x 335 platform needs a upgrade in the worst way!

For sure, I actually bought a spare trans shortly after my car went in for a ST, kinda wishing I woulda held off cause my thoughts now would be to do a built DCT swap, but that upgrade STILL isn't seen either...I mean it seems like it's been 4 months since Sticky said they had all parts...for a 10-12 hour job? I just wonder what roadblocks Gintani hit

Not everyone is running into tranny problems with stockers or Rbs so they think they don't have a problem. Not everyone wants to pay over 4k to see if it works thats why it would be great if people with lvl10 failures would step up and say something. Prem's car failed with 517 motorsports right around... never mind he can speak on that if he wishes. Everyone wants whp and forgets about the trans. But as more and more people go single the trans is something that cant continue to be ignored. Our tranny is the 6hp21 rated at 450nm=331tq, i'd say its doing a good job supporting low 500wtq 169+tq more than it should. Raising the oem numbers to say 600nm or 700nm should net a nice improvement, being that's it holding and additional 169tq. Take the 169tq coupled with the improvement from 450nm to 600nm wouldn't be to shabby. As long as the price tag to go from 450nm to 600nm isn't outrageous.
Does anyone truly know if the Alpina flash really helps our tranny out with handling of additional torque?

Yeah I have that new AT now, with the upgraded cooling system Click here to enlarge

Look at Terrys transmission its holding up with stock cooling right now and by adjusting his throttle. I am going to do the same but with upgraded cooling and see what happens.

Mine is holding up fine. Its been abused on a daily basis with stage 2 vargas turbos and a 65-75 additive on map 3. I've said before its not the power levels that the ST or Vargas stage 3's but seems to be fine at the 500hp/tq range. I'll be doing stage 3 vargas turbos and we'll see how strong it is.

AK hasn't doesn't anything yet...the shop both our cars is at is actually waiting on me to bring up my spare transmission so that they can take a look at it and get going on a solution, possibly building a bellhousing so that we can easily swap some different transmissions in there. AK as talking about a 4l80e but last time we talked about it he was just thinking about doing an MT swap. But currently nothing done, no ST AT to my knowledge has done anything to upgrade or swap their trans except me.
