• ESS supercharged E90 M3 vs. Kenne Bell Gt500

ESS VT2-600 Supercharged M3 takes on a Kenne Bell Mustang GT500. The M3 owner claims the car is putting out well over 500 whp, clearly, it isn't.

Yes it's the Griggs GR40SS suspension. First real mod to the car.

I guess I don't get the issue with ESS. The GT500 has 700rwhp and more importantly 650lbs of torque, and that torque curve is going to be broad as hell with the KB blower. That car could waste pretty much every car on this site, regardless of whose supercharger it has.

I wouldn't say it would waste every car on this site. Maybe most.

It just isn't the strongest supercharger option for the E92 M3 and the issues are some of the numbers.

It drops sprung weight and reconfigures things so that you get enormous amounts of traction.

As for the GT500, it's very impressive.
A few notes on my experience:
        1) Stock the car was worthless in my eyes. I got it because of it's robust build quality and ability to handle enormous amounts of power without having to do all the peripheral stuff. That's what gets expensive. Not the mods you prepare for, the ones you dont prepare for. ie subframes, clutches etc..
2)My daily driver is a 2010 135i which is SO different from the GT500 that the contrast is welcome. When I get into the Shelby, it's much bigger, less tailored, and the shifter feel is surprisingly short but bolt action like. The car is noisy with the solid bushings, comp tires and catless x-pipes, but since it's my weekend car, I wanted something raw. I love it.
        3) People love this car when you drive it around. My wife and I laugh when we drive my construction sites cause guys stop and drool. You feel like the man. I never got this in the Z06 or the Porsche. You end up feeling hated more than anything.Click here to enlarge
        4) With the same amount of mods you would invest in just supercharging an M3, you end up with a 1000hp monster that can handle like a Z06 vette.

If you can have BMW fit and finish and smoothness during the week, and American muscle on the weekend. You have an awesome balance. I do love getting back in the 135 after 2 days in the Shelby. Light clutch, smaller diameter steering wheel and QUIET.Click here to enlarge

True, but you lose exclusivity. I can count the M3's like mine on one hand and clearly this is a smaller mod market that takes more $. I can find you many strong GT500's and mustangs in general.

In a way, that is exactly what a supercharged V8 M3 is Click here to enlarge

I see dozens of M3s by me. And know 2 guys with Supercharged ones besides you guys. Click here to enlarge They only made 380 or so Shelby's my color, so I think it's fairly exclusive. And it's a Shelby. There's value in that alone. Playing with a non boosted car is not for the meek. And making a Shelby strong just required a pulley and software!! So it's hard to say...

I need to run a Gintani M3 once and for all. I would be impressed and would be compelled to get one if it walked me. Just can't see how 450 ftlbs of torque is going to pull 750ftlbs when the cars weigh about the same. Regardless of gearbox. But hey, stranger things have happened! Click here to enlarge

Not with built motors with built DCT transmissions. There is only one, mine.

You admit yourself you will get more power out of the GT500 for less money, definitely. To mod an M3 to the 800+ whp level takes more cash and is more exclusive in that sense.

It would be an interesting race you running a stock motor Gintani SC with meth. How much rwhp were you making in the vid exactly? We need to get some traps or 60-130's to have a better idea. If your car is in the 800 whp range you will pull no doubt, if it is in the high 600 or low 700 range it should be a good race.

I can't say for sure. But here is what I can say with confidence. The car was dyno tuned remotely by Jon Lund, who is the best for these cars. With the 3.25 pulley or 15psi she made 664 at the rear wheels with the mods I had. He said she was roughly 30hp stronger than the average KB GT500. My tuner/best friend has a few tricks up his sleeve. Since the tuning, we stepped up or down I should say, to the 3 inch pulley for 18psi. From there on, it's speculation. Some say that every psi is worth 20-25 hp on these cars. I would say roughly 700 to the rear wheels. Again, the 2 inch headers are being made now, and the 12lb driveshaft is waiting to be put in. Both should have a massive impact on that number. Roughly 60 for the headers and 15 for the driveshaft which is going from 48lbs to 12.
With race gas, race pulley and race program I have in my handheld, the car should clear 850rear wheel.
So for right now, it would be a great race!

What have you done to the motor, and the DCT?

Here is an interesting look at my car prior to the big blower and x-pipe. The the car made 490 at the tires with the pulley, intake, flowmaster mufflers and software.
At this link you can see I ran a 12.1 at 118.5 with a 2.2 60 foot. First time at the track, on the 3rd pass. I go by Timber Wolf on that forum. This was on stock tires, which are garbage. With a good tire that would have been a 11.7 or so give or take.

Note that Ferrarokid in the 10 second section was running my blower but with the headers, race tune, pulley tune.
He ran a 10.2 at 139. He trapped well into the 140s but the ET suffered..

Here is what my old 490whp setup did to a stock GTR:
