Mercedes-Benz turbo inline-6 motors to debut in next generation E-Class and trickle down throughout the range
This is not the first BenzBoost has heard of Mercedes-Benz returning to the inline-6 motor. Way back in 2011 BenzBoost published an article stating Mercedes was on track to downsize their motors and revive the inline-6
which they last produced in 1997. Mercedes is on track to do so already downsizing their V8's
and the inline-6 motor which will also spawn inline-4's based on the architecture will debut with the next generation E-Class for the 2016 model year.
These will be direct injected and turbocharged powerplants as fuel efficiency is at a premium today. The upcoming W205 C-Class
will also receive these motors as part of a facelift after the next generation E-Class debuts with them. Displacement details and power figures are all speculation at this point but the 3.0 liter range for a six and 2.0 liter range for a four-cylinder seems to be the general area.
