• Volkswagen intends to go to a 100% turbocharged lineup in 3-4 years, no more naturally aspirated motors - VW loves boost

Well, good news for VWBoost.com eh? Not really an earth shattering revelation as so much of Volkswagen's lineup employs and has employed turbochargers but Volkswagen intends to go to a turbo-only lineup. The sad news there is that means the venerable VR6 is approaching the end of its lifespan and the VR6 is a motor treasured in VW enthusiast's hearts. The old 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline-5 was already slated to be replaced by a new 1.8 liter turbo announced way back in 2011.

VW Executive Mark Trahan stated the following, "You have to have a turbo these days. We only have one normally aspirated gas engine, and when we go to the next generation vehicle that its in, it will be replaced. So three, four years maximum.

So there you have it, a few more years for the VR6 then it's gone. Then again, maybe VW will give that design turbos? Wouldn't that be something enthusiasts have wished for? Regardless, the naturally aspirated motor will be dead at least in Volkswagen's lineup.
