    • Stock Ferrari 458 Italia versus stock Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG roll on races - Surprising result

Simply awesome video comparison here of a stock Ferrari 458 Italia versus a stock Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Both cars have similar output in the ~560 horsepower range although the SLS M159 6.2 liter V8 is much larger than the Ferrari's 4.5 liter V8. The Ferrari is about 400 pounds lighter though and revs to 9000 rpm versus the 7500 rpm redline of the SLS AMG. Both cars have the same Getrag 7-speed dual clutch gearbox although with different software.

There are three runs and the cars are fairly evenly matched although the edge goes to the SLS which is able to pull in each race. Even in the third run when the 458 gets a slight jump the SLS is able to pull slightly past. It's close, but surprisingly the SLS takes it.

There are test numbers out there showing the Ferrari running close to high 10's @ almost 130 miles per hour. Just goes to show Ferrari might send ringers as they have been known to skew numbers in tests in their favor. Car and Driver got 11.6@126 for the SLS in the 1/4 mile versus 11.5@128 for the 458 Italia.

What could explain this? The SLS is likely stronger from a roll than it is from a stop and the 458 gets a benefit in the 1/4 mile due to its weight plus mid-engine layout and launch control providing a better start from a stop.

Simply an excellent video courtesy of user @AWD75 and it sheds some light on a very controversial video posted previously of a claimed "stock" SLS AMG versus a 458 Italia. In that video, the SLS crushes the 458 Italia and the conclusion was that the SLS could not be stock. With this video as support, this network stands by that previous claim. The previous video has since been set to private.

I did the same thing to a 458 when my SLS was Stock . The races in the past video were from higher speed rolls. The owner said his SLS was stock and i believe it is .@AWD75 will hopefully post high speed roll on races until Vmax is reached and hopefully you will see a bigger difference.

I have done this in the past, 458 are good from low speed. Up top the gullwing crushes it. its a fact.

@Portman header/tuned C63 absolutely killed a stock 458 in AD about a year ago. I wish I had a video to show you

@Sticky , do you remember this thread and that douchebag LZH saying crap, like no stock SLS could beat a stock Ferrari:

        http://benzboost.com/showthread.php?...+458+stock+SLS

Well, here is another video Above

The only area where a stock 458 outpreforms a stock SLS is in the quarter mile drag, and thats due to the 458 lighter weight. Roll on races, its bye bye 458

Thank you @AWD75 , nice post
Hey $#@!face, go back and read that thread. Both you and your dumbass brother were saying that car was stock, remember ? Clearly it wasn't, hence the reason why it beat the 458 so badly. In the video we have here, you can clearly see that it is a very close race with the SLS pulling away slightly. But you and you brother both said the SLS would kill the 458. Doesn't seem much like a kill now does it ? And in the first race the 458 hangs RIGHT with the SLS. Sure the SLS won but only BARELY, but it was definitely not a "kill" as you morons suggested. Oh yeah, you still think torque wins races ? LOL!!!!

Dude STOP making such idiotic claims. The SLS is not by a long shot "CRUSHING" the 458. The races are VERY close as evidenced by the video here. And in the second race they run for 12 seconds. You telling me that wasn't enough time "UP TOP" as you suggested ? They were probably going at least 140mph when they let off and the SLS was only less than a car length ahead.

And just for the people who couldnt see the video posted last year. The SLS was in fact STOCK. You can contact the racing group "trakhos", the car belongs to one member named Carl to confirm.

@AWD75, were you driving in Manual mode? if you werent, please switch your transmission mode to "M", it makes a BIG diffrence, (take it from someone with experience)

Race the 458 in Manual from 100km/hr ~ 60mph starting from third gear an please show everybody how the gullwing rapes the 458Click here to enlarge

--dont forget to switch to ESP -OFFClick here to enlarge

I was in shock as well after the races. Seems like slow "GT" car can hang up with the fast "sports" cars. Click here to enlarge

I did the pulls both in sport+ & manual mode. But while doing 60-130 times sport+ seemed to give better results. Dont worry about the ESP. It is the first thing that i set it completely off even before putting the seatbelt.

Dont you think 100km is a bad speed for SLS? At 40-45 mph i am right at around 5800rpm which gives a very good kick. If you start at 100km you have to be in 3rd w/low rpm.

40-45mph is a diffrent roll on speed. @ 100 km/hr your engine will be reving around 3300RPM where torque hasnt reached its limit yet. Try it for yourself. Do you have a VBOX?

60-130 on an SLS from third gear will net you the best results

Same exact tranny but shift speed is faster due to software. Wonder if someone can get the SLS Black Series transmission software installed on the SLS.

I'm starting to really want one...

They should be EXTREMELY close - with the 458 walking away @ high speeds... Here's a simulation: Attachment 31720

Orange line is the 458 - this is usually very accurate physics/modeling software... Kinda backs up what happened here? IDK.

It doesn't back it up as the SLS was faster up top...

Yeah, I watched it a few days ago - didn't remember them getting into the triple digits for some reason... I am impressed with the SLS - but to be honest, it doesn't make any sense.

It makes sense. The 458 is overrated in HP IMO:

Sure, but would you call any of the three races in this video "killing, raping or crushing" the 458 ?? I mean c'mon, lets be honest - the SLS was less than a car length ahead even at ~140mph. That small of a distance could be attributed to tire pressure being too low, fuel level, any number of small factors could be attributed to such a slight speed advantage.

Dude you are an IDIOT. IF the video of the SLS from last year that you referenced showed the SLS literally walking away from the 458, and the 3 videos in this thread shows the SLS only slightly ahead (less than a car length), then what would you call the SLS here ?? De Tuned ?? LOL, keep drinking the KoolAid moron.

As I wrote in the article I stated it is basically even with an edge to the SLS.
