    • Modified LS3 C6 Corvette versus a modified E63 M6 from a dig

It is not often you see E60 M5's or E63 M6's racing from a stop as the SMG is tough to launch and BMW gave the US version of the cars crippled launch control. In the US the cars just launch from 1800 rpm which is hardly enough revs for the S85 V10 with its 8250 rpm redline. The car in this video has the Euro launch control which allows launches up to 5000 rpm with different clutch modulation and clearly makes a big difference from a stop with the 7-speed SMG III transmission.

Both cars are modified. The C6 is an automatic sporting the 6.2 liter LS3 with intake, headers, and tune. The M6 has a tune, filters, de-cattted stock headers, and a pulley.

The C6 gets a slight lead out of the hole but the M6 is able to catch and pull quickly and strongly. Nice to see an S85 V10 running from a stop for a change as owners are usually running it top end from a roll.

I think if the vette was stick it would have been a little different. the LS3 will put down probably 30-40whp less than the s85 when modded, but it weighs about 500lbs less so yea. Kinda surprised at this outcome, but the s85 isn't a slouch when modded correctly like it is here.

Why? The auto is easier to launch from a dig.

The LS3 is no slouch. But neither is the S85.

I believe gearing in the 6speed makes a difference in trap. I remember reading somewhere where they had 4mph difference in trap auto vs 6speed stock! I'll try n find it. Still though, with a weight difference in over 500lbs I'd think they'd be at least even.

Well it gets the jump out of the hole as it should but the S85 top end is no joke.

Yea, I have to agree. Top end is what the v10 will come back with.

That M sounds glorious - it's the closest thing I have heard from a production car to an F1 car... Too bad we won't be seeing this in the near future. Click here to enlarge

Absolutely, it sounds amazing. The S85 may be the best sounding BMW production motor of all time.
