    • Things can go wrong in a hurry - E46 M3 takes a dive off a cliff, video

There are few pleasures equivalent to having a drivers car and a beautiful twisty road. That is exactly the type of thing the driver in the video below is enjoying. as he takes his E46 M3 down a beautiful twisty cliff side road with a great view of the ocean. The problem is when one pushes it too far and this video shows the consequences. Now the driver is not exactly going balls out but it goes to show you do not have to be to lose it on a road you may lack familiarity with.

The driver simply takes a tight right hander poorly and understeers right off the road tumbling onto the cliffs below. The side impact airbag goes up immediately showing the level of sensitivity and safety the E46 M3 is built with. I'm not here to chastise this driver as I have done a very similar tumble also in an E46 M3 which gave its life to spare mine.

This video is a reminder that things can get ugly very quickly behind the wheel. It's best to save it for the track and you do not have to be going 10/10's to lose it although this guy had quite a brisk pace using both sides of the public road. Know your road, know your car, know your surroundings, know your limits, and always dial it back more than dialing it forward. If you do not, this can happen and you may not be so fortunate.

So bad. Bet he feels like a tool.

On a side note, I'm glad portable video recording has gotten cheap and easy to do, otherwise we wouldn't have stuff like this to watch.

Well if we is me then I put emphasis on that but I am thrilled about him as well. I don't want someone to get seriously injured enjoying a performance car.

Oh of course, I wasn't just referencing this video in particular, but also things like Russian dash cam vids.

I have no comment on Russian dash cams. All I know is I'm glad they have them.

Lucky he didn't kill someone else. What a dumb @ss... I enjoy a quick drive, but not pushing it to traction lose on public roads. Like most inexperienced drivers, he probably had traction control disabled. His buddy in front almost lost it a half mile earlier which should have been a clear indicator things were getting out of control. I wonder if new charges will be filed now that the video is released or if the video was used to prosecute him for reckless driving.

Probably just settled with insurance recently and thought it would be cool to release his expert driving how-to cliff dive video. Seriously though, someone should bring this video to Phoenix PD's attention - this $#@!tard deserves some time away from a car to learn his lesson or god forbid he does this again and someone is in the way of the cliff.

When the car starts to understeer, you have to "open" steering wheel lock, not turn in further which actually decreases grip further and makes understeer worse. Could have saved this.

Exactly. A quick turn to the left to gain traction on the steer axle would have made it much easier to turn out long before the cliff edge.

I think he already went through all the legal stuff, but you are spot on. That was crazy I'm all for spirited driving but not crossing lanes and putting other peoples life in danger

Either way, I think the statute of limitations on traffic violations is 60 or 90 days.

If he didn't learn a lesson after that, hopefully he will get a Darwin award before he breeds.
