      BenzBoost is still trying to wrap its head around this decision. It does not make a whole lot of sense but Mercedes-Benz seems determined to downsize their engines and for the 2015 model year there will be no E550 W212 E-Class sedan. To get a V8 in the E-Class sedan one will have to go for the E63 AMG with the M157 twin turbo V8. The C207 E-Class coupe however will retain the M278 V8 and continue to offer an E550 model in convertible and coupe forms.


      Confusing? A bit. So the E-Sedan will only offer a V8 with an AMG variant whereas the coupe will only offer a V8 as a 550 model with no AMG variant. Someone at Mercedes-Benz must be bored and making changes for the sake of change.

      No E550 sedan rival to the Audi S6 or the BMW 550i? It would not be a big deal if the E400 sedan was not underpowered compared to the M278 V8. 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque for the 3.0 liter twin turbo direct injected V6 is certainly very nice as is another boosted motor option being added to the lineup (which is likely to trickle to the SLK/C/GLK, etc.) but it hardly makes up for the gap the E550 filled with its 402 horsepower 4.6 liter M278 twin turbo V8 which also offers 73 additional pound-feet of torque on the new twin turbo V6.

      Mercedes-Benz seems to believe buyers going for the E550 simply step up to the E63 AMG. Yet in the coupe this is not an option. BenzBoost has a solution. Offer an E63 AMG coupe and convertible as well and we'll let this E550 being cancelled business slide.

        It makes no sense at all. Since the C63 and CL63 are both available, that leaves the E hanging out there on its own as the only coupe without an AMG version. It looks even worse when you look at the entire lineup:

        Models with AMG variant: C coupe, C sedan, E sedan, S sedan, CL coupe, CLS sedan (I refuse to call it a coupe), ML SUV, GL SUV, G SUV, SLK roadster, and SL roadster.

        Models w/o AMG variant: E coupe, GLK SUV

        WTF?!?!?!? And I was hoping for an E63 coupe to trade my 550 on.

        I wish they would offer an E63 AMG coupe. I own a 2012 E550 coupe, but have been longing for an E63 coupe. Honestly, in a year when I sell my car, I'll likely be switching to BMW, as Mercedes have no other car that really interests me. The SL is nice, but far overpriced.
