      Here it is at last, the king of the naturally aspirated race bred 911 crop. Yes, the brand spanking new 2014 991 GT3. As previously reported the PDK and 9000 RPM info was on the money. Horsepower is slightly more than expected out of the new 3.8 liter motor with 475 horsepower. Porsche claims with the PDK transmission and new found power compared to the 997.2 GT3 which also had a 3.8 liter flat-6 but with 435 horses that the new 991 GT3 is an incredible 6/10's quicker 0-60.


      Ok, so PDK and more power but what about the chassis? How about new rear axle steering. Check this out:


      Awesome? Awesome does not even begin to cover it. The rear axle steering also works in concert with the Porsche Vectoring Plus system which is standard:


      Both of these system interact with the Porsche Stability Management traction control system. Porsche states the limits are very high for the system to intervene but does not confirm if the PSM can be disabled completely. With this being a GT3, it would be shocking if Porsche did not allow one to switch the traction control off.

      Now there is no mention of a manual transmission so the car is PDK only, at least for now. Don't cry, it was inevitable:


      Congratulations to Porsche on raising the bar once again. And with the standard 991 GT3 being this good the RS version will likely be mind blowing. What else is there to say? There is no substitute.

        this car is amazing. Compare the path that Porsche is on for the 991 and 981 carsversus what BMW is doing with their models. It's nice that some companies haven't totally forgotten the enthusiasts.

        electronic 4ws?

        does it not suck any more?

        every car i've driven with electronic 4WS you either disable it because it tries to kill you (every nissan with HICAS, though the hydraulic one wasn't flash either), or it disables itself beause it's so freakin sensitive (hondas) - the only car i've driven where it was decent was the late 80's honda prelude... which was mechanical.

        Must watch video, my favorite feature is the "doughnut mode." At any time, you can pull both + and - shift paddles and this will immediately disengage the clutch so you can pop the clutch to initiate a drift or hold both paddles while sitting still to give yourself full control over the launch (you have full control over when the clutch engages so you can launch at any RPM). Only Porsche is badass enough to think of such an aweseome feature. Also, they finally reversed the direction of their console-mounted shifter (so you pull the knob back for upshifts).

        Six months ago I would have cried about the lack of a manual transmission (and I still wish they would offer it as an option) but since October I've been daily driving a 335is with DCT and I'm pretty much convinced. I still have a 6MT 135i that I drive on occasion, but I have never wished my 3 was manual. I got a brief taste of the PDK in a 991 Carrera S and it's even better than the one BMW uses, so I'm sure this new PDK in the GT3 will be even more perfectly suited for the car.

        Car sounds like it's going to be sick. However, I'll be interested to see how Porsche starts dealing with warranty claims when owners are pulling both paddles in and launching it at 8000rpms and grenading gearboxes.
