Diesel Volkswagen Golf performance likely headed for USA - MKVII Golf GTD coming in 2014

Very good news here for Golf Diesel fans. You may remember a VWBoost article last month on the MKVI Golf GTD which unfortunately is for European customers only. Well, with the new MKVII Golf it seems the USA will not be skipped over when it comes to a hotter diesel Golf. Additionally, the car is to get more power with 180 horses (up from 168) and 280 pound-feet of torque (up from 258 pound-feet of torque).

VW officials stated, "Sales of our diesels have been rising in the U.S. and there's been a wide push internally to include more diesel variants of more models for buyers here. This time that might mean the GTD comes to the U.S., which would be critical to the image of diesels because this will be fast and will sound fantastic."

That is not 100% confirmation but Audi's recent huge diesel roll-out in the USA bodes well for this car to make it over this time around. It's about time for the USA to get some of the awesome diesel powerplants the Germans deliver to Europe as well as other parts of the world. Definitely would be a step forward.
