    • ESS-Tuning versus Evolve Automotive Round 2 - Spin, lawsuits, threats, allegations of dangerous/basic tuning, and more ugly behavior

You just could not make this stuff up even if you tried. So, ESS-Tuning (who must love reading BimmerBoost) took a look at this article regarding the posted e-mails from Asbjorn@ESS and decided to continue berating Evolve Automotive as well as their former customer for daring to try a different tune with the hardware that he purchased and is his property to use and tune in whatever manner he pleases. This rather than taking the high road and apologizing, who would have guessed?

It gets better. So Absjorn at ESS claims he "knew" his e-mails would get posted on BimmerBoost in this most recent absurd e-mail although if you look over the previous e-mails there is absolutely no mention of this. Ya, um, ok, whatever you say buddy. This latest one was written obviously knowing it would get back to me. So, let's analyze it.

First, we start with the claim that Absjorn took a look at Evolve's software already on an M3 that they then tuned. Asbjorn at ESS calls it "basic" and "shocking" saying it will lead to catastrophic engine failure. BimmerBoost is somewhat surprised Asbjorn did not blame the Evolve software for global warming, terrorism, and the state of the economy as well. Hyperbole aside, Asbjorn claims the motor has to be on borrowed time.

This, ladies and gentlemen, with absolutely no evidence. Just take his word for it, seems like a reasonable fellow doesn't he? So no readout, no engine failure, no disassembled motor to point to, no datalogs, nothing. Just his "expert" claim designed to put down a fellow tuner who is getting a lot of his business. And somehow this tuner he is claiming is dangerous whose tune will lead to "catastrophic failure" is somehow doing a better job with the same hardware. Hey, you figure it out because I'm still looking for the logical correlation.

Ok so now that we have the absurdly pathetic scare tactic out of the way let's just get to the really petty stuff. ESS claims due to their "shocking" finding (which is not documented or displayed in any way, shape, or form by them or any Evolve customer for that matter, (as in about as much evidence as Asbjorn saying the Tooth Fairy exists) they will now include a warning in their supercharger installation manuals specifically targeting Evolve saying they warn against installing any forced induction kit on any Evolve tuned car as the motor is likely "structurally compromised" due to abnormalities. Please attempt to control your laughter, this isn't funny. Ok, yes it is, laugh away.

So the threat is that Evolve tuning somehow "compromises" the engines integrity and all warranty support from ESS will be voided. Um, this warranty support isn't for the factory BMW motor anyway so what is the big threat? If the supercharger were to fail the phone call would be to Vortech to honor their warranty so all one would lose is apparently dealing with someone who appears to be out of their mind.

The e-mail ends with insults lobbed at Sal regarding his "lack of ability" and word getting out about it. Also asking for Evolve to sue them over e-mails, seriously. Asbjorn, the only thing the word is getting out about would be a bit of mental instability on your end. Take a step away from the keyboard. Maybe go on vacation. I'm sure your scare tactics have generated enough money for you. Get a massage maybe to help with the stress? Either way, stop embarrassing yourself and grow up. For your own sake (and sanity).

When i saw this situation, one thing caught my eyes:

I can't find a single post of Salman saying how weak/bad the ESS software is or questioning AJ's ability as a tuner. But AJ does all of that. That my friends, is the difference between a gentleman and AJ.

Now i should go and fire up my car and drive it home with it's dangerous tune aka Evolve-R. Scary stuff.

Asbjorn thinks Evolve is gonna sue him now? That's cute. I think they're a little too busy tuning cars and cranking out awesome products.

I used to like ESS and I definitely liked their products. I'm also biased because they're Norwegian and I'd like to think it's kind of cool to have a car tuned by tuners from your own country. But the more I read the things that Asbjorn says, the more I wonder if he's even qualified to play with an Easy-Bake oven.

I've been in a car that runs too much ignition advance for its fuel. It feels terrible. Not good in any way whatsoever. We'd know if the Evolve cars were targeting too aggressive of an ignition curve because the car would run like $#@!.

Also, if the Evolve software is dangerous, then time will tell. We don't need Asbjorn to tell us. We'd know. But I can't find anyone complaining that Evolve blew up their motor. All I can find is great reviews about how well the car drives after Evolve tuned it. I have an Evolve tune. I know a fair bit about cars, tuning, and a hell of a lot about software. I still trust Evolve with playing with something that will cost me a good stack of dollar bills if something goes wrong.

I for one, hope that Evolve never sues ESS. I hope they just continue to embarrass them by taking the higher road and letting their products speak for themselves.

Someone needs to send this over to Absjorn
        Attachment 24836

and explain to him that he's not doing ESS any favors running his mouth. With every email, he's unintentionally acknowledging Evolve as a competitive vendor who's becoming more popular for retuning ESS' products Click here to enlarge Said it in the original thread, if ESS did things right the 1st time around, they wouldn't have this problem on their hands. Can't remember ever hearing about Active Autowerke or VF-Engineering having these problems with their S65 s/c kits.

I'd also like to acknowledge Evolve for handling the situation professionally, and not "retaliating" and/or making stupid claims towards ESS & what Absjorn has said

Funny how everyone claims to be a tuner.. Loading a file on a vehicle that someone else created does not make you or your company a tuner. If the customer feels Evolve will tune it better than the guy you paid to do it then that's on the customer. From what I have gathered from the other thread the customer takes 100% responsibility for all of his actions which in my opinion is the only way for this deal to go. There should be absolutely no threatening or email correspondences going on after the first email.

Until you can prove the tune will decrease the lifespan of the engine..

        Hahahaha what a joke,

I've never really liked ESS as a company anyway.

Hats off to evolve for staying super cool and classy throughout this whole ordeal !!

        question..

he read an evolve tuned car, then tuned the car with an ess file.. then says that any evolve tuned car is on borrowed time? so, how does that make sense? if something fails now, he gets to blame evolve, even though he chose to still tune the car..? If they actually believed it was on borrowed time, they would have declined tuning it.. right.. right..

oh, btw, i had an evolve tune on my car, and now ess blower. it seems to be taking quite the beating, and actually snagged a new ess record.. not following the thought process here..

I agree 100000000000% . If they truly believe the engine is compromised they would be idiots to touch the car. Actions speak louder than words....what a joke

I hate tuner rivalry trash talking. Although it only seems to be coming from one direction at this point. I'm glad to know there are still some reputable companies who keep their mouths shut and let their products do the talking.

Do you find it odd that most tuning companies get along fairly well ? Yet ess seems to have this high horse attitude and likes to keep their distance from everyone. I believe people are starting to speak out because they are tired of it.Be nice and we can all get along..

I mean the thing is they aren't horrible or anything but it's just like, seriously now?

These guys... I run out of things to say. It's going to be awkward when they try to advertise here.

As long as they pay their bills on time, it'll be fine. The community here won't tolerate it & whenever they say something out of line, they'll get neg'd for it. Eventually they'll either:
        1. Catch on & stop saying dumb $#@! that isn't true or that they can't back up with hard data
        2. Keep saying dumb $#@! & only be allowed to post once a day (like Shiv)
