      Was somebody saying the horsepower war is dead? Because it just seems to be intensifying. Audi appears to be responding to the E63/CLS63 AMG facelift which will have all wheel drive and 585 horsepower in optional S-trim. 600 horsepower would put the RS6 at the top of the mid-size luxury performance sport sedan game especially when combined with Audi's Quattro. Audi seems to be determined to not be one-upped by anyone.


      The standard RS6 has 560 horsepower making it quite stout. The new RS7 has the same amount but it is likely this "Plus" trim would also be available on the new RS7. Also keep in mind Audi has done an RS6 plus before specifically with the C5 which received roughly a 30 horse bump so the precedent for a sportier and more powerful RS6 by Audi has already been set.

      Oh and more power isn't all that is on the agenda. The RS Plus models are supposed to get extra weight savings as well as Quattro division boss Stephan Reil stated, "A Plus model could have more power, or less weight, and a Plus model should always handle differently to the standard car."

      Way to step your game up Audi, respect.

        Wow. Benz first, now RS6.

        Seems like this would force BMW's hand, even though the M5 was just released. But history shows they don't do power increases mid-cycle.

        Unfortunately this is correct but BMW has been testing higher powered files and they may do an optional kit ala Mercedes Performance Pack. These turbo motors change everything.

        BMW did a first year only power increase with the E90 330i, the E46 330i got a power increase mid cycle with the ZHP package, and the E46 M3 got a power increase mid cycle with the CSL option. I think a power package is reasonable for BMW to offer, probably associated with other sportier parts.

        I guess the main thing I'm saying is I don't expect BMW to offer more power for free, lol.

        I don't think we're getting any RS6s, but it looks like we are getting the RS7 instead.

        This is getting pretty awesome, both Mercedes and Audi now have BMW outgunned. I did not expect this to happen so soon after the M5 and M6 were released.

        CSL and GTS are different specialty models. The M3 and M5 stay stagnant, no real changes.

        The M5 is really underrated so it probably surprised Merc and Audi anyway...

        Yeah, that's why I'm surprised Audi and Mercedes were able to respond so quickly. All three of them are really bringing their A game, I used to prefer BMW by a country mile but now I'd be equally happy owning any of the three brands for the first time in my life. That 507 horsepower C63 has me a little worried about the next M3, though, I keep seeing rumors that it's only going to have 415-430 horsepower and I personally hope for more.

        I no longer have a desire for BMW to be the best. I think they frankly deserve the spanking they are getting and apparently will continue to get.

        +1 They need to become competitive again. We need the 3-series to drop off that the 10Best list for C&D after like 22 years lol

        I doubt it will ever drop it's a good car. The thing is, the 10 Best list doesn't take the top level of competition into account and is for a certain price range as well I believe.

        Maybe I'll do my own 10 Best list.

        It's not impossible for the RS6 Plus to come to North America, even if the "base" RS6 does not. Alot depends on sales of the other models in the USA (RS7, S6). AoA and Quattro GMBH do respond to the market-remember, that's all they care about-sales, so if it's worth it to federalize the car, they could.

        That's true. They just don't think Avant's sell here.
